Hello All Atlantaians

 

Not sure if that is even a word but nonetheless, I'll be in Atlanta Nov. 13-18 and looking for some city info. I know Danny Cruz just posted a similiar thread but I have a few different questions for the locals. I'll be staying at the Hilton Towers on Courtyland and am looking for a decent gym. Also, any info on the bath house in Atlanta - is it worth my time and money?

Gyms Etc.

 

Unfortunately, downtown Atlanta is no place for anyone to stay at night, as was pointed out in the Danny Cruz thread. Perimeter is also not a place for anyone to stay or visit. It is highly unlikely you will be able to get by without a car, unless most of your clients are coming to you. Fortunately, downtown is not that far from midtown, and most of your clients should live within a reasonable cab distance from you. You will not have a difficult time catching a cab from downtown, but you will need to telephone a cab to meet you at a client's home or motel. Your best bet would be to get the contact number often used by waiters and others in the hospitality industry. Hopefully, someone on the hospitality staff at the Hilton should be able to get it for you as I do not have that kind of contact in Atlanta any longer. You should definitely check out the following link: http://www.davidatlanta.com/ and also pick up a copy of this publication while you are there. The bars in Atlanta are generic and you cannot trust a bar guide. You can also check out http://www.southernvoice.com/ to find out about local news and other (non-nightlife) events in Atlanta.

 

When I lived in Atlanta in the late 1990s, the bathhouse did not have a good reputation. I would try a site like cruising4sex to see what it might be like now. I think if you are hoping for recreational sex, you might be better off picking up a guy you are interested in at either a gym or a nightclub.

 

Atlanta does have a great circuit type nightclub which is a small cab fare away from the downtown area: http://www.bluatlanta.com/ There is one bar near downtown open 24 hours, Backstreet, but my friends tell me hardly any gay men of any age go there any longer.

 

I am going to chek with a few of them and will post later today as to gyms, but the choices used to be Fitness Factory and Mid City Fitness, with the gym I prefered, PE Midtown having changed names, I believe.

Urban Body Fitness

 

If you have a car and the weather is nice, I would definitely bring some shorts and go for a jog at Piedmont Park on the weekend; a great place to people watch, cruise and get some exercise. Fitness Factory is near the park, but the facitlities can leave something to be desired. PE Midtown Fitness has become Urban Body Fitness. There website is here:
