Channing Tatum has stated in interviews that his wife actually likes him a little puffier (or maybe the truth is she just likes him appearing a bit less desirable to so many other people) and that he "lets himself go" somewhat in between roles that require him to be lean. I assume that at some point that means he'll be heavy for the rest of his life, but he won't be the first Hollywood sex symbol to let himself go.

Matt Damon has been in and out of shape a lot. I think I remember him saying in an article that before he started filming the Bourne Indentity he was quite out of shape and had to reassure the director that it wouldn't take him long to get into shape.

On the other hand I read an article today about him getting into shape for last year's Elysium. He said that he trained 4 hours a day and it was difficult as he was 42 and not 26 anymore.

He said he was trying to get his wife to like him with the 40 pounds he put on for The Informant.

Matt Damon was never really super studly. Cuddly, sure. Pretty? Very. But not a hunk.

I've always said Channing Tatum has just couple of pounds between hunk and chunk. He goes back and forth. But really, they all do. That Hollywood "ideal" body ISN'T NORMAL so a guy who isn't doing a movie probably doesn't maintain it.

Well, just like in "real life" (i.e., people who aren't movie stars), I'm sure some keep themselves in top physical form just because that's what they've always done. I've never seen Matthew McConaughey look anything but muscular except when he lost all that weight so he'd look ill. He's the Hollywood example of some guys I see at my gym: Despite them being in their 50s or 60s, they still have physiques that most men never attain their entire lives.
