At the risk of offending everybody....Why is is that when someone dies only the 'good' is spoken [or written] about them? In fact, Ms. Bacall, although a big star, was not particularly a nice person. Many from the chorus of Applause, after she left, were fond of wearing "I survived the B.O.B.!" tee shirts. B.O.B standing for Bitch of Broadway. My own meeting with her was very nasty and uncalled for - and far from gracious - on her part. She was, indeed, a bitch and very full of herself. Talented, beautiful, classy appearing, but, in reality...not so nice.

OK boys...attack away!!

I'm SO glad you posted that. She was probably wonderful to her kids and husbands but she was a beast to work with. I was in the chorus of "Applause" and she was a pain in the ass. I heard from friends in "Woman of the Year" that they were amazed that anybody could be worse but then Raquel Welch replaced Bacall and she WAS worse - hard to imagine! I don't want to speak ill of the dead but I get a little disgusted with people when they go on and on with gooey, sentimental shit about a celebrity who has passed away when in reality, a lot of the time, the dead celebrity was a nasty piece of work who walked all over people in spiked heels before breakfast had even been served. I could make a list of the ones I've worked with in my long career who were horrendous human beings but then I'd end up being just as bitchy as they were. Instead, I will honor the work many of them did because most of them were superbly talented and leave it at that. May they all rest in peace and when I join them maybe I can finally tell them what I REALLY thought of them.

Thanks for your post, actor 61. This whole sanctimonious business about not saying supposedly negative things about people who have died is ridiculous. Bacall was one of the most salty, insecure, charismatic characters in show business. Do people really think that Bacall herself would have hesitated to bash someone whom she disliked a day or two after the person died.

I agree that we should not speak ill of the dead. I understand Judas was a great cook and Hitler hardly ever beat his dog and Bin Laden was a big tipper.

And Charles Manson threw a killer party!!

Very punny in its very dark way Okie, but Manson is not dead so I guess it's okay to speak ill of him!?
