I don't know about you, but most of the women I know are animals (at least, the ones in my family are, especially at the Loehman's Year-End Clearance Sale). :p

>If you and Rick are going to state outright that you eat only

>vegetables and fruit, then how can you condone

I think you mean, "Unless you and Rick are going to..." but in any case, it is true that, due to my feelings about animals, I was completely vegan for 10 years. It was a difficult decision to start eating meat again, but I had to do so because I'd developed allergies to soy and vegetable protein products (which I'd OD'd on in my 20's).

>You and Rick, imho, are the types that PETA suck up to

Thanks. I always like to be told what "type" I am.

>I would no sooner give funds to PETA than I would the IRA or

>the anti-abortion groups

No one is asking you for money. My original point was to let David see the rodeo from the animal rights' point of view.

Do you really believe that most of peta's activists know "NOTHING" about rodeos? Have you interviewed them personally? Have you even read anything about them or their organization or are you merely basing everything on some "blood" that was poured on your sister's fur coat years ago? How do you even know that it was peta that was behind that, and if so, what percentage of their efforts do you think is comprised of blood tossing? I wish you could post something based on fact but all I see here is emotion and anger.

Thanks. No, I wasn't on the debating team but I was president of the French club. That's why I'm such a good kisser. :p

Rick, I wouldn't say PETA knows nothing about rodeo; my bigger concern is what they lies they have spewed while full well knowing they were lies. Let me cite a case in point.

I have personally viewed handouts from PETA that claim "straps are secured around the genitals of the animals to make them buck". This is perhaps the most laughable garbage they've circulated for years. The genitals of rodeo animals have never been messed with in any way regarding rodeos, and that is a pure, simple fact. Yet that hasn't stopped PETA from circulating a lie, and never have they retracted the lie or apologized for telling it. Big surprise, eh?

How many rodeos have you attended Rick? Are you knowledgeable from personal experience, as I am, or just relying on the folks at PETA to make you an "expert"?

You talk about anger and emotion in someone else's post, what about your own? Last time I looked, it was you who felt the need to chastise David Gartner for thinking rodeo was cool, by hijacking his thread with your PETA diatribe.

I stand 100% with Rick. It is cruel to the animal. Imagin being run around an arena, stuck with electric prods, etc. It is one of the hateful sports which uses animals in a demeaning, cruel fashion for the fun and entertainment of humans. Just like the Roman coliseum days.

None, and I have never claimed to be knowlegable on the subject, let alone an expert. That's why I have referred anyone who's paying attention to peta's website, so they can draw their own conclusions. I do know that animal cruelty exists in this world and that many turn a blind eye. It's always a good thing to get people to think about it. It's not just about rodeos.

Look above. My post consisted of the following: "Actually, it's much worse for the calves, bulls, horses and other animals used in the cruel 'sport' of rodeos. Here are excerpts from peta's fact sheet at www.peta.org:" followed by passages from peta's fact sheet. If that post showed "anger and emotion" and chastisement, then maybe I need a new dictionary. :p

By the way, let's stop crying "thread hijacking" and call it what it really is: having a conversation. :+

Good enough for me! :*

Speaking of being vegan for a while, they say you are what you eat--guess that's why I'm an asshole }(

Well, not to sound like a copy cat of Rick's reply, but I was a vegetarian for about 6 years--not Vegan, however. I stopped because it just became too impractical to take out clients for dinners and lunches and either find things on the menu I could eat or go thru the explanations. Vegetarianism, however, was a matter of health rather than not wanting to kill animals. I NEVER eat veal and haven't for more than 15 years, since finding out how they were raised. I only eat free range chicken and free range chicken eggs, for the same reasons and never red meat.

I don't have a problem with eating beef, or most meat for that matter, but I choose not to for health reasons. BUT that being said, leading animals to slaughter for food is a little higher use than torturing for pure entertainment and profit. In other words, as with many things, there are trade offs.

Human entertainment or profit, however, in my opinion NEVER justifies NO cruelty to animals, whereas providing food is a different matter, as long as it's not overly cruel as in the case of veal. I realize much of this is not totally consistent, but it works for me.

While I am a tree hugger, I'm not against all logging--just environmentally unsound tree harvesting, such as clear cutting. My philosophy is one of moderation with most things, although to you it may sound radical.

As far as the IRA and anti-abortion groups, we may have more common ground, however, having spent a lot of time in Ireland, they never would have gotten to this fragile peace and unification agreement (sorta) they have now if it were not for the IRA--but YES, I deplore the loss of innocent lives.

There's enough for 3 or 4 other threads here--sorry David :)
