NYO, I thought you were strictly into 'live theatre'. :+

I just saw this for the second time in Montreal. Its much more fun to see it with friends. I think that it will be a big hit in the U.S. (at least with the gay population). It is sort of My Big Fat Italian Coming Out Story. This is a funny movie.

Sorry. Didn't do it for me. Very predictable plot, but cute. Big problem was that the story turned around not only being gay but also being gay within the culture of an Italian family and the Italian community. The main character was cute, but almost certainly not Italian, and any number of the other "Italians" were not. Very fake accents in some cases. Just made it tough to get into it. Enjoyable, but a very predicitble coming out plot to conservative family who comes around in the end.

Soccerstud,I think there are different levels of "Italianess" in Italian American families. On the west coast we do not have the same level of ethno-centric communities that one sees on the east coast. And many families are going on many generations here in the US(and Canada)and are therefore less defined by their original homeland.

I saw this film in Montreal, and a friend whose family lives in St.Leonard(the "little italy"section of Montreal)says that it was pretty spot on in its representation of SOME of the families he knew there.

And there is a huge difference in Northern and Southern Italian cultures that persist for many generations even after imagration.

Sorry to those who are offended by resurrecting old threads, but I just saw this film on cable this week.

I totally enjoyed it. I was in the mood for a laugh, and this film worked just fine.

Could I quarrel with the ethnicity of some of the actors? yeah, well, so no big deal.

It's one of those " buy the premise, buy the bit " things.

The guy who played the Closeted Cop is plenty good looking enough to allow me to get past any of the errors in casting or even the stereotypes.

Anyway, I enjoyed it.

Jack, I wasn't offended, nor was I upset.

BUT, I did empty out the Scotch bottle and check all of my calendars to see if I was totally with the new year, 2005. <SMILE>

I saw Mambo not too long ago, well after it was released and I enjoyed it. Its not complex, its not award winning, it doesn't tread new paths. But it was enjoyable nonetheless.

One of these days I'm going to have friends over to do a gay movie marathon. With lots of food and drinks. "Beautiful Thing", "Celluloid Closet", "Mambo Italiano", "The Law of Desire" and "The Thin Man" will definitely be on the agenda.

OK, so not totally gay. Every gay guy needs SOME cultural icon to hang onto. Myrna is HOT.

Regards,
