I think they sent the wrong Lanister to greet Prince Oberlyn.... They should have sent Jamie to greet him.... A pairing of those two would have been magnificent... Like any man, Jaime has desires and I'm sure Prince Oberlyn would have given him a hand.

I don't know, Jamie seems to like having his desires satisfied by his own kin.

Weddings are a perilous event it seems ! Can't wait !

Tyrion and Sensa's wedding seemed to go off without probelms, though it could have been "perilous" had Joffrey carried out his...idea...of stopping by and seeing Sensa after Tyrion had passed out.

Yes, I thought it was going to be bad but I'm thankful it wasn't as the Red Wedding was tough enough. Liked all those characters

There was also another scary moment when Tyrion told Joffery "NO" when it came time for his and Sansa's bedding cermeony. Tywin had to step in then as well......

And as for Jaimie, I think if he had any interest in masculine sex, he would have hooked up with Brienne of Tarth in the bath..... but at least, we did get to see Jaimie's butt out of the deal. Very nice, as I recall.

I will miss Robb Stark's butt. Was hoping to see more if that but yes Jamie's is very nice. I'm thinking Tywin's days might be numbered as that is a rumor I'm hearing. Don't want to spoil anything. And I think the Dragon Queen's older right hand man is hot as hell.

I'm relatively new to the show, but I had heard about the "Red Wedding" before I started watching, so I was expecting the worst during Tyrion and Sensa's wedding since red seems to be the Lanister's colour!

Yes, I thought Robb Stark was the hottest guy on the show so far. Jason Mamoa doesn't do it for. He has too much the appearance of one of those roided WWE guys.

I asked a friend who has read all the books -- without giving me any details -- if the story ever really "goes anywhere" (meaning, do we ever get closer to a resolution of who will sit on the Iron Throne) and she said "honestly, no, you just get lots of new characters and lots of new situations." I find that troubling .... it sounds to me like a writer who doesn't really have an ending in mind and that this thing will just meander along (interestingly, I might add) but never resolve the main story.

The folks at HBO are already saying that it's possible that the series will end before Martin ever gets around to writing the final book.

Yes, you would like to know there is a light ( resolution ) at the end of the tunnel but I guess the GOT world is like ours , constantly changing! There was a new character that I think showed up at during the last episode that I didn't remember from last season. He was the guy that gave the "Dragon Queen" the 3 flowers. I don't remember him. What happened to the other guy that cut off his two partners heads when they wanted to kill her ? But then I got distracted by the brothel scene and the blonde guy! I so wanted that robe to drop to the floor!! LOL

What is confusing is that essentially books 3 and 4 happen at the same time, but to different characters...those in Westeros and then those in Bravos and beyond. Like for instance for almost all of book 3, we are lead to beleive that Theon is dead and then he shows up as Reek in book 4. It was way more dramatic in the books because he seemed to be gone for such a long time. But in the series, he's never been gone at all.

That wasn't a new character with the flowers, but instead a new actor playing Daario Naharis (spp??).

And so for resolution, how can there be when there are two more books to go? And the first 5 were like 1000 pages each. so that is alot left to happen. Book 5 introduces a huge new character and ends with several cliffhangers. I almost wish that I hadn't read the books because waiting years for the next one is harder and more frustrating than waiting eight months for the series to return. Allegedly, GRRMartin has told the producers how he plans to ultimately end the books. But he writes so many stoylines that lead to different places than the series takes them. For instance, Gendry. He is very, very minor on the books especially after he parts company with Arya Stark and is, if memory serves killed off with Brienne, at the order of someone supposedly dead now..... but in the series, he has been featured alot as it should be as he is the true bastard son of Robert Barathian and as such has his own claim to the Iron Throne... certainly more than Joffrey or Tommen or Myrcella as they are inbred Lannisters.

Wow. I need to get another hobby. I know.... maybe I will try escorts.

There's a thought.

Ok , gotcha , just a new actor. Now it makes sense. I was wondering whete he came from. And I agree, the escort hobby would be easier! LOL. Thanks for the GOT info- much appreciated !

That's what my friend, who likes the book, said. She said she is always suspicious of a writer who is doing a series who introduces new characters in Books 4, 5, 6 ... and constantly. She feels -- she teaches creative writing at a university -- it's often because the writer doesn't know where to go with the characters he's already created and it's easier just to start writing new characters. Interesting line of thought.

After last season (TV), the other feeling that started to bother me was that evil seems to always win out in this series. Now, I realize that's a lot like life, however, I think to sustain any kind of successful fiction series like this you have to have occasional wins for "the good guys" or the "less bad guys." It won't make me turn off the show because I think it's all brilliantly done but it gets kind of tiresome to watch the better characters or the characters that seem to represent something less bad than the Lannisters all get killed off one by one ....

Posted

Well, not to ruin anything, but let's just say, that Jaimie's losing his hand (and therefore his claim to fame as Westeros' greatest swordsman and indentity) is not the worst thing that happens to the Lannisters....

Curses do come home.

Love it when I get to be cryptic.

LOL. I have heard what is coming but that doesn't bother me. You can tell me the end of a movie or book and that doesn't ruin it for me. But I'm respectful that others don't feel the same way. Can't wait for Sunday !! And I enjoy cryptic responses too!

Some of what I have read about GofT indicates that Martin is inspired by the Wars of the Roses. I have tried to make sense of the plot using the Lancastrian/Yorkist template but without making real progress. I suppose the influence is in the general idea of families engaged in fighting each other in endlessly complicated wars to gain the throne, by means of politics, dynastic marriages, maneuvering and violence. If it is the inspiration, then the question of resolution perhaps lies in the appearance of a previously unimportant claimant lifted to plausibility by changing circumstances, who brings a resolution to the whole mess by defeating the king in battle. But that leaves unclear just who is who. Is Robert Borathian Henry IV or Henry V? Neither fits his dissolute character. Henry IV died in his bed, well-respected. Henry V was the golden prince, the ideal king, who died too young. His son Henry VI was an infant at the time of his accession and was pious rather than vicious, and while mentally unstable, was not a monster, but rather a pawn. So it doesn't fit.

So my guess is that all the current would-be royals will somehow be sidelined and an unexpected character ultimately triumphs, as did Henry Tudor (Henry VII). In that scenario, perhaps Daenerys Targaryen the dragon lady is the one - maneuvering her way around the edges of things, out of sight and out of mind in the main struggles. Henry Tudor's claim was an obscure one arising out of a pre-Henry IV dynastic connection, similar to Daenarys's situation. Could that be a pointer to her eventual victory? Or is there another great hero still to arise?

The War of the Roses basis is interesting. I haven't read the GOT books so its fun to hear these things. Makes the series that more interesting.

In my opinion, there is no real comparison to the War of the Roses other than these characters seem awfully British. Obviously, no one except GRRMartin knows how it is going to end, but I think it's key to remember that the overarching theme (and title of the book series) is A Song of Fire and Ice. That has always lead me to believe that ultimately the final battle will be between those two elements.... ie.... Ice (Whitewalkers?) vs. Fire (Dragons?) or more pointedly, Ice (Jon Snow and the remaining Starks and the North) vs. Danaerys Targaryian and other Targaryians and the South) with the winner gaining the Iron Throne.

As to who will win, no clue. But those dragons and the Targaryian's ability to control won them Wetseros to begin with.... but they didn't have the Whitewalkers and the army of the dead to contend with that time. And remember only dragon glass can kill a Whitewalker..... not fire. I also think that Bran's being a wog (being able to get inside the mind of an animal) plays into this in a big way. As does, Arya's need for vengeance. For me, I just hope that the Starks at some point are reunited, but GRRMartin is no fan of happy endings.

Hopefully we are ALL Mature enuff to NOT ruin this Season for others? "Time Will Tell"

And, hopefully, some will be smart enough not to click on any thread or news story that says GAME OF THRONES :)

Unfortunately, these days it's almost impossible to avoid spoilers but you have a fighting chance if you don't follow threads about shows you like :)

I know the history of the Wars of the Roses and I don't find even one or two parallels. Not one. It's a nice thought but I don't see it.

I'd kind of like to see Danaerys prevail - she is the most forward thinking of any of the characters - she's freed all those slaves and she seems to have a sense of justice and fairness. The other candidate would be Jon Snow - is he the bastard son of Ned Stark or might he really be a Barathian - another bastard of the dead king.

Posted

Interesting thought about Jon Snow. In the books, it talks alot about his mother and how Nedd Stark claimed him and brought him home to a completely pissed off Catelyn. But maybe he was covering for his best friend, Robert Barathian? Jon certainly looked like Robb Stark, though, but then again, so does Gendry (RB's real bastard son). Hope it's not true, because like I said before, I would like for the Starks to prevail in some fashion after all the crap that has happened to that family and Jon seems to be their best hope.

Posted

But in that day and age, would a bastard on the throne be acceptable? I suspect that the Starks will all be dead by the end of the series since Martin seems to have a very cynical view of the world. I'm just looking forward to the day when Joffrey finally gets it.

I also think that Martin probably has NO idea how the series is going to end. Just my opinion.
