After a dismal fall theater season, things could only look up, right? And boy, are they! I already have my tickets to the following shows:

Book of Mormon, finally with orchestra seats under $200

Kinky Boots, a big Tony winner which I have already seen once

Kung Fu, the Bruce Lee play at the Signature. A former contestant on So You Think You Can Dance stars. He's hot.

The Realistic Joneses, an intelligent comedy about neighbors

Hedwig and The Angry Inch- one of the best shows I have ever seen when it was off- B-way. N.P. Harris does this one.

Of Mice and Men with James Franco

All The Way, where Brian Cranston plays LBJ

A Raisin in the Sun, with Denzel Washington and no longer Diahann Carroll

The shows I'd like to see are almost endless:

A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder

Bronx Bombers

Machinal

Mothers & Sons

Outside Mullingar

Buyer and Cellar

You might say I missed a few, but I didn't list the shows I have already seen unless I planned a revisit.

What shows appeal to you?

Dismal fall theater season? 1) Gentleman's Guide To Love And Murder 2) After Midnight 3) Beautiful 4) The Model Apartment 5) Fun Home 6) Domesticated 7) Machinal

Spoken like a proud theater fan! I have not heard of The Model Apartment, so no reviews made it here. I looked it up and see it played at 59E59th, a venue I hate. But I would probably have gone if I knew it was really good.

I hope to see Gentleman's Guide soon, I saw After Midnight, and tried to see Fun Home and Domesticated, both were sold out when I tried to get tickets.

Machinal opened in December, long after I had headed for warmer climes. But, and I mean this sincerely, I am glad that you got to see them all. It surely would have upgraded things from "dismal."

Buyer and Cellar is a must see. I'm not sure if Michael Urie is still in it; I recall reading recently about the understudy who is going on in his place when the original goes on the road. But it is total camp and total fun.

Sounds like fun. I hope to hear how you enjoyed the shows. The paper today says Bullets Over Broadway is really lagging in ticket sales, perhaps due to the scandal.

Shows I Didn't Like

Outside Mullingar was slightly more entertaining than The Realistic Joneses. Mullingar was doing its final performance, so maybe they did their best for the final show.

Realistic Joneses was such a dud, with stupid characters doing stupid things. Both shows had two couples who lived next door or nearby. We saw then interact 2 on 2, one on 2, 2 on 1, etc. each character had his chance to make a fool of himself or herself, and they certainly succeeded at that. Ostensibly the play is about words and why we use them. Since all words are made up, why can't we make up our own words when we communicate? It never gets better than that.

Realistic Jonses has such a good cast I was going to see it for that reason but thanks to your review I will skip it and save my money for a better play.

Well we saw Bullets Over Bway last Thursday....No empty seats in orchestra or mezz....we liked it a lot....but couldn't help comparing it to the very funny...over the top film...lots of great singing...so so dancing...Zak Braff was just adequate....I am easily entertained...so we try to see everything within reason....I wouldn't rush to see it...but worth the night....Also saw Motown The Musical......dreary....more of a salute to Mr Gordy....it was if he was the 2nd coming and be all to all.....not the real deal....the music was disjointed and more of a sampler to buy the CD's....My real job is producing music videos for the likes of Rhino...Streetwise...Demon/Harmless etc....so I may have been too critical...the audience ate it up! Best of the week! The BIG GAY SING ALONG at Skirball...with Mrtha Wash as guest artist....a great time...for a great cause....

Here's what I wonder: If the attraction of the show is the singing, say Kelli O'Hara, for example, why not just wait until the CD comes out, enjoy the music over and over and skip paying the big ticket price for the show?
