Sorry, but you are about a decade or two too late to find such places.

Thanks to the laws in the U.S., prostitution is illegal.

Most of the bars, coffee shops and other places where gays could previously meet “escorts” were systematically closed and no longer exist.

By a major contrast, in some foreign countries including Canada, Brazil, Columbia and certain European countries (where prostitution is legal) there are countless places where “clients” can engage incredibly handsome “escorts” for a mere fraction of what one pays in this country, and such an engagement is legal.

Reading through this forum it is has been proved, over and over again, that many (and possibly most) escort advertisements contain fake photos or photos of the actual escort, but the photos are many years out-of-date. Moreover, the ads exaggerate the escorts' abilities and other “attributes.”

Sadly, your question - “Where would be some good spots to meet escorts in NYC ?” must be answered with a simple - no where.

If you are willing to spend the time and effort, you can sift through some of the ads and occasionally find an escort who delivers what is promised in the ad.

I'm imagining you want to set up a discreet meeting with them in public, to see if it will or will not work out, so there's a possibility you would cancel?

If so, I can't really say anywhere specific as it might not be where you or the escort are located. Generally, if you or the escort are in a hotel, I'd imagine somewhere in the lobby for a coffee or drink is good, esp. since hotel lobbies can be quiet but spacious enough to avoid others eavesdropping on your conversations. Coffee shops filled with lots of people working on laptops may seem apt, but when I'm in a coffee shop like that, I can hear almost every conversation in my immediate vicinity, so I imagine anyone next to me would overhear any 'interview negotiations.' In the evening I suppose a bar is perfect if you can repair to a side area, since you can speak directly to each other's ears if there's music going on. I would just avoid sitting at the actual bar with the bartender - they might seem to be busy, but you know they hear EVERYTHING.

I agree with all of the above - you are about 10-15 years too late. The bars that catered to this type of 'mixing' have all closed. However, I have had good luck speaking with dancers at the various strip clubs. They won't do it then and there (although there were exceptions to that at Club 20), but if you hit it off with a dancer you can get his phone number and set up a private show at a different time and location. That way, they get to see you, you get to see them. It takes away a lot of the awkwardness and the potentially disappointing surprises linked to an internet hookup. Club 20 sadly closed, but many of the dancers are now at the various other strip venues in NY - give it a try. Good luck

I understand the OP's sentiment. I also prefer to actually meet someone before committing to a hook-up. The web-site services are fine for looking at pretty pictures (which may or may not be of the male escort), but one only gets a feeling of how the guy conducts and carries himself upon meeting him. For that reason I prefer the sauna scene in Brazil/Spain and the nude stripper scene in North America. In NYC, you're basically out of luck except to go to where there are strippers/gogo boys and see if you can make a connection. I understand that the Townhouse is nothing like what it used to be however I cannot comment with first hand knowledge.

I do believe that the lack of Escort bars in US cities, and indeed in most world cities, is caused by more tha simply stricter non-prostitution laws(or enforcement thereof). The evolution of the internet has as much or more to do with it. Very few cities around the developed/developing world have escort bars today. There is a good one in Madrid. 1-2 of them in Santo Domingo, and a few in Eastern Europe. If you go 20-25 years back, one would find many more male escort bars in the World's cities. Let's face it, even in Brazil, the male escort sauna scene is nothing like it used to be in terms of the quality of the guys that worked them. Sure there are still plenty of working guys that go.....but many are very low quality guys I would not touch for free. Yes there are still some hotties, but they are fewer and fewer. The heyday in Brazil saunas was pre-2000. I am so happy got to experience it in the late 80's and all of the 90's. I still go today, but it pales by comparison. Someone on this forum or another forum recently commented that the best working guys in Brazil now work from the internet and rarely go to the saunas. Personally, I mostly blame the internet for this evolution in Brazil, the US, the Netherlands, the UK, and most of the rest of the developed/developing world.

I second the recommendation for the Townhouse... I have had many great experiences as a result of spending much of an evening there.

But as with all things of this nature, you need to be careful and perhaps go and just observe for an evening or two before making any decisions.

I think most of these responses overlook the obvious. You can meet up with somebody at a Starbucks, and they are literally all over the place. Obviously, you can't have a loud sexually-explicit conversation, but you can meet, have a cup of coffee, size each other up, and decide whether to go wherever you plan to go to "get it on." Inexpensive, public enough for safety, and Starbucks is an all-purpose meeting place, so idling there waiting for somebody is unlikely to attract unwanted attention, unlike idling in a hotel lobby.

This was my reaction too. It's a matter of interpretation, but I thought the OP was asking about a place to "meet in person" AFTER having communicated by phone, text or email. If I remember right, there was a thread not so long ago in which the consensus of opinion was that most escorts would NOT agree to meet for coffee/lunch in advance of an appointment with the option of the prospective client walking away. But if you are offering to pay for time and want to begin with coffee in a public place, I think that should be acceptable.

It's just my opinion, but I think the need to see/meet the escort in a public place first is a way of dealing with hiring anxieties. I guess I understand that if you're going to go after a relatively unknown, unreviewed guy and you don't trust the pictures/information you've been given. To stay within my own comfort level, I stick with well-reviewed men (there are plenty to choose from), haven't felt the need to meet in public first (even if I haven't seen a guy's face) and have not been disappointed.

When I started, more than two decades ago, I hired my first guys in hustler bars in New York and Berlin and House of Boys in Europe and Australia. Sure not every choice was the right one, but the law of averages was heavily on my side because I knew the guys a bit before taking them 'home.'. To some degree, well-reviewed escorts who post here frequently are providing the same insight.

I am proud to have 'hiring anxiety' when hiring an escort with good reviews, but no posts here and little discussion about him in the forums. I am glad to works for you though.

Your point is well made, William, and made me realize I should have been more specific--because it's not like I'm entirely anxiety-free about going to meet a guy I've hired. My greatest concern happened in exactly the situation you outlined ... a well-reviewed guy but not someone who posts here or has been discussed. He did a nice thing by inviting we to "keep in touch" as often as I liked during the week between making the appointment and meeting him. (No one has ever proposed that, before or since; I thought he was being very generous with his time.) We probably exchanged a dozen or so texts and it was a nice prelude to meeting him. ALL my other guys have been (a.) well-reviewed and (b.) discussed favorably on the forum. When I've emailed, texted or talked on the phone with them, I've been impressed (and reasssured) by their good communication skills. Some post and some don't. A couple of them have extensive websites that have also helped give me a sense of who they are, what they like and whether I'd be comfortable with them.

That said, NOTHING beats seeing a guy for the second time with all the anxieties of the first time out of the way and the certainty that he's someone you want to see again. (Of course -- flip side of the coin -- some guys probably thrive on the thrill of the risky and unknown. Not me.)

I guess, unlike Europe and Brazil, there is no place in NYC where clients talk to younger men (potential escorts) and offer them money to take them home.

If you want to see the "real deal" before committing, offering money to have a coffee before is a good choice, if not going to a stripper's bar to see them and get a feeling would work, but you might need to wait till they are done or exchange numbers and make plans for later.

I wish there was a place like a supermarket when you can go and pick your guy, I went to Adonis in Madrid, and after talking to the manager all the guys in the house paraded in front of me in their underwear. Of course, prostitution is legal in Europe, it is not here except in a few counties of NV.

Maybe is time for a Bunny Ranch for gay men!

I know there are some fellows here with money, come on guy, let's start a legal brothel for men in Nevada, I would be a client and even buy stock it goes public, a recession proof business.

Obvious?

What one person regards as “obvious” may not be “obvious” to another. “Obviously,” we each have different reactions and approaches in the things we do.

Your idea of meeting in a Starbucks (or similar type establishment) is a good option for assuaging anxiety in connection with meeting an unknown escort.

A public meeting will, for the most part, reduce or eliminate the possibility of an escort using fake pictures or out-of-date photos.

Unfortunately, fake escorts are becoming the norm on many escort sites. Men who exploit gays have become quite skilled in their methods. Our job is to attempt to block or reduce the prevalence of some many fake ads.

Image (and other searches) often require a lot of time to meticulously trace through photos and prior and current escort ads. All too often, photos are of guys, other than the person placing the ad.

Out-of-date photos can often be detected based on the date the photo first appeared on the internet. This search takes time and effort and luck.

Bottom line? Until and/or unless you actually meet with a potential escort, you do not know if the escort is real or a con man. Insisting that the escort meet with you prior to an actual “session” with the escort would, at least, assure that you are meeting with the person who is depicted in the photos shown in the ad.

hey LOVE the idea of a "bunny ranch" for men! I was recently in Nevada and every lil' wide spot in the road has a big, garish pink house full of ladies for rent, I think it would be an absolute hoot to do a 1 week stint in such a place. I hear those bitches can cook! Though I'd want to rename a place to rent guys as a "jack-rabbit ranch" or some such.

As far as NYC goes, the Townhouse is still the unofficial spot, but really you should just rely on good reviews on this site and not waste your time meeting up. Just call someone reputable (well-reviewed here on Daddy's) and have them come to your private hotel room at the time of your choosing. It's really that simple...really :-)

Happy hunting!

You should talk one of your sugar daddies into doing it, I'm sure you'd do well and also have fun with the other hotties after all the clients are gone.

The first legal gay brothel the US! A place where we can go and pick a guy, I'd love to see that on TV.

Yes, sadly because of US laws it seems hard to imagine anyone soon setting up a European styled "House of Boys" which were some of the greatest places to visit when traveling around Europe back a decade or two ago. Some of these were discreet houses nestled in a city center right next to family residences, others were country homes (one or two could pass as a country villa). You could go for a visit of a few hours; some even offered rooms for a weekend or more stay (such as in Central Europe and some areas of Germany). They all had an array of young men (say from 18 through late 20's), and places I visited more than once offered a wide range of types [guys from the such wide-ranging places as Portugal, Spain, Greece, then-Yugoslavia, Albania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Netherlands, Australia, Indonesia, Morocco, Algeria, Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela to name a few places].

Some places had a two- or three-level set-up: you were welcomed into the ground level where they had one large parlor where you would be seated, offered a drink, and within minutes anywhere from 3 to 7 young guys came in, introduced themselves and sat around talking with you (and whatever other clients were visiting at the time) and you had a chance to listen to them communicate a bit, and eventually - no pressure - choose one or more to "go upstairs". Once you decided, they would see the manager and get one of the keys for a room upstairs (some were dungeon cells, others were fluffy bedrooms that were garish in décor but fun to roll around in, others had a wrestling mat or some other "scene" such as a few lockers and a bench (one house was very inventive of the rooms).

You would engage a guy for an hour; if you were having a good time and wanted to go longer, the manager and the escort had a brief conversation from the room phone and the games continued. The places had nice bathrooms with ample shower facilities and it was a way of spending a few safe afternoon or evening hours in the company of a nice guy (no threat of any rip-offs or sudden surprises). Often if you clicked with the guy, he might be so kind as to hand you a card with his private phone number for another get-together when he was off the clock.

Always sorry such establishments could not make it here in the US - such a loss.

There was a gay brothel in New York in the '60s and perhaps earlier. It was, I've heard, located in the Columbus Circle area and many celebrities -- Tony Perkins, Peter O'Toole -- were reportedly sighted there. Anyone have more details on this establishment?

I went to what was either a brothel or very close to it in NYC in 1997. Wish I could remember more details, but it featured a few guys in a reception kinda room hanging out, then went back to a play room with a guy.

Wish I could remember more details, can't even remember where it was. Had a great time, wish I would have gone more than once, I'm sure its long gone.

I'm sure Giuliani closed it, family values for us but not for him, 3 wives (one of them his former mistress) and counting...

I know there are a lot of places like that in Europe, Australia and Brazil where prostitution is legal.

In the mid-1990s, I recall a great little place in NYC, located in the Chelsea or West Village neighborhood (I cannot remember exactly). It was a small apartment on the second floor of a run-down building. It was open only during specific hours.

When open, clients could sit in a living room type area, have refreshments, and chat with whichever guys were hanging out there that day. You could have a private session for $50 or so. One of the rooms was padded--and a great place for wrestling and tossing one another against the (padded) walls and floor. One of the regular guys there was a wiry college kid who loved to wrestle and get really rough in the padded room.
