I'm not at all a fan of Joan Rivers and what she does today. However, I thought she was a scream in the 1980's when she would fill-in for Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. A few clips of classic Joan:

Does anyone else remember Joan Rivers on the Tonight Show??

I just loved Joan Rivers on the Tonight Show. In the Central time zone the Tonight Show was broadcast at 10:30, so i could watch the show without dragging the next day. Was great when I had those 7:30 AM college classes.

Joan Rivers is the only person that can get away with what she does. She's a living legend. I hope she lives to be 100 and still doing shows on gay cruises.

Her humor (or lack of it) has turned into a hateful mess of self-importance in my opinion.

I don't care for her at all now. She seems a completely different person than when I first heard of her in the 80's. In the day, she was extremely clever and considered one of the best female comedians in the US. This thread is about vintage Joan not current Joan.

Her night time show was excellent. Liked her much more than Arsenio Hall afterward. But in the world of Joan what is under appreciated and rarely discussed was her brief day time show. It was a long time ago, but my memory of it was that it was very classy and she did a fantastic job of reigning in her sarcasm. A few years before that Whoopi Goldberg had a night time talk show, one on one, that was also awesome and classy.
