It's not clear to me if he became infected in his porn work or his private life: http://www.xbiz.com/news/168395

it's sad because it was preventable. he made his choices and now has to live and pay for them

he calls it a 'blessing' on twitter. is this fella nuts?

As I read it, the 'blessing' is that the infection is recent. "I'm blessed for the fact that I caught it so early ... with the tests I have done the doctors have figured out that I was infected within the last month"

Obesity is already a national security threat, is Hiv next?

It will cost all of us a lot of money to keep him alive with expensive pills for years to come...

That's why I have an account at Randy Blue and I gave up on BB sites like Corbin Fisher and Sean Cody who promote an irresponsible lifestyle making it look normal/acceptable.

Enough preaching...

I'm curious how you know that 'we' will paying for those pills?

Nothing is free in this world, your healthcare insurance company, county, state, city, parents, family, friends, yourself will take money from one area to another to pay for expensive drugs to treat a disease that is 100% preventable.

Someone is paying your free lunch, isn't it?

Yes that is what I took it to mean also, that it was caught early, not that he was blessed that he contracted HIV....

He could have used condoms... and he would be negative right now?

That would have been a real blessing, using condoms.

Obviously...but I have no desire to debate 'shoulda, coulda, woulda'...My comment was only to clarify what he meant when he said "it was a blessing". Nothing more, nothing less.

I think jimboivyo read too fast or just missed it, no need to explain that again on here when "seeker..." already did.

yup, I did misread. It's more clear now

I agree that nothing in this life is free. Someone always pays and it's usually not those who cause the problem

This is a public forum, please don't tell me what I should or should not post....Have a nice night!

It happens to all of us, sometimes I can't read all 11 pages of threads like the one about a "Jewish escort".... oops I just woke up Bozzo, that thread will go on forever.

I think you had too much coffee.

Please don't take it so personal!

I don't drink coffee, and I never take anything personal, that is said to me from an anonymous Internet poster......(moving on.... since the focus here should be on the news of Rod announcing his HIV status, which is something that many of us should be concerned about.) I for one was a fan, and the news brings sadness. I wish him well.

I agree with you on that one!

Gandhi said: "You must become the change you seek". Let's be responsible, and play safe.

I feel precisely the same way, and have acted similarly.

Cancelled CF and SC quite a while ago ... my currently active account is at condom-using CockyBoys. (RB seems to me to be passing through a dry spell.)

True - we're all paying for lots of things we may not agree with or benefit from - wars, schools. food & healthcare for the poor, AIDS & cancer research, etc.

Most things that we visit the doctor for and seek treatment for are preventable. Singling out HIV infection for moral opprobrium is what setback the gay community and the AIDS research in the 1980s. Let's not continue that nonsense, especially if your proposed solution is safe sex rather than total abstinence. I know everyone likes to pretend that people who have HIV must have been barebacking because it makes us feel safer about having safe sex. And sure, most gay men who have HIV did contract it from barebacking. But the reality is that condoms are not 100% effective and yes, sometimes even men who use condoms every single time still end up with HIV, which could have been prevented by not having sex at all.

Your narrow focus on how much HIV is costing you is rather unhelpful to the dialogue about safe sex. After all, 100% prevention requires 100% abstinence. There is always a risk of contracting HIV or any other STD if you are having sex, period. Safe sex is about minimizing risk, not eliminating risk.

So let's not needlessly attack people who have contracted HIV when every single one of us here puts ourselves at risk. Using condoms unquestionably reduces risk and makes us safer, but it doesn't make us risk-free as you seem to believe.

Beyond that, we don't even know how Rod Daily contracted HIV. We can make an educated guess as to how, but that's still just speculation. Shaming HIV never saved anyone's life.

Whilst I find very regrettable that another porn star gets infected, some of the comments in this thread strike me as insensitive and hurtful (as someone who is not a porn actor, not American and not positive)

Also I'm not sure where the 100% came from, since there are different ways of HIV transmission (not only sexual).

Curiously, there are still people who assume that HIV can be transmitted through kissing, sharing food, mosquito bites or shacking hands!

I'm just pro-condoms! I've been using condoms for 30+ years and I'm negative.

If you use condoms there's a 1% chance you might get infected, if you don't use them you are very likely to get it.

Why is so difficult to make people think about protecting themselves and their communities?

+1...Articulate, thoughtful and a poignant statement in light of the news about Rod.

What about oral sex without a condom? Safe / Unsafe?
