Howdy Howdy,

Guess all the guys here with AOL accounts have noticed that over the 4th, AOL decided to erase profiles daily that include the word, "escort" ANYWHERE within that profile. They arent sending out the dreaded TOS just doing one big sweep sometime around Noon every day.

I love my website and rely mostly on it but still love to play around on AOL. I think they're leaving profiles using "companion" alone. SO, anyone using the keyword or search function might want to consider plugging in companion now for those last minute hiring decisions.

This AOL lunacy has been going on for years in one form or another.

Check out this (in)famous example from 1996 in Voume 18, Issue 7 of the comp.risks digest:

http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Risks/18.07.html#subj3

which deals with the trials and tribulations of an AOL subscriber who had the misfortune to

live in the town of Scunthorpe in the north of England.

Friends don't let friends use AOL.

Aha! I was wondering what was going on. Thanks for the info, STJ! :*

They do seem to be leaving alone the screen names with "escort" or some form of that word in them, however. I'm looking at my Buddy List right now, and there are at least 5 names containing "escort," "scort," "escrt," or "xcort".

Is it just a matter of time before they go, too? x(

Time

The screen names with words like HUNG 4 HIRE will be the first to go. ELITE ESCORT or ELITE ESC or ELITE ESCT, depending on the home page and/or profile will eventually be removed. This is the argument AOL used in making me delete my first AOL account "franco4hire." However, there are a number of "johndoes4hire" that exist and have existed for years.

AOL is not doing a "massive" search, some individuals are targeting others. AOL responds to specific complaints and one thing that is being targeted by these individuals are escorts, such as Small Town John, who may state that they have good reviews of Male 4 Male Escorts. If you simply state "well reviewed" or "ask me about my reviews" there is no basis for you to be a target. In that instance, it was something else in your profile.

However, if you do a simple search for "escort" you will find a number of women also using the term in their profile and you will note if you run this simple search frequently that many of these profiles remain unalterted and not impacted by these individuals. They simply appear to be targeting well-known, well regarded, well-reviewed male escorts who are available to other gay, bisexual or bi-curious men. In particular, escorts reviewed on this site are being targeted.

Not that I am questioning your statement's accuracy, but just how would you be privy to the necessary information to make such a statement?

(a) there are not many escorts of whom it could be stated that they are well reviewed and well known, not to mention well regarded. In particular, I was referring to those of us, even if we only post occassionally, who do so on this board (as opposed to those of us who post frequently).

(b) of that number, there are not many who have AOL profiles and accounts/screen names.

© of that lesser grouping, it is not a difficult matter to track. Some of it has been self-reported on here and elsewhere.

(d) of those who would not necessarily be targeted from the Message Center, they can be targeted on the basis of their regard and number of reviews. An example of this would be Michael Brandon, who had to recently change his AOL screen name. Mr. Brandon can certainly be considered a well-reviewed, well regarded and well known escort who's primary target audience is gay identified men or gay males.

Finally, this was a factual assertion on my part. This is not a trial. What I stated can be easily and readily verified by anyone by casual observation, knowledge of America on Line and how they operate and function, and an interest in and knowledge of the inner workings of escorting as a career and a profession. I was very clear, at least I believed, that this is not being done to every single person, male or female, with the term escort in their AOL profile, which was essentially the comment made by Small Town John. Rather, I elaborated to indicate that certain escorts were being targeted and impacted.

I have an interest in this particular issue as I know I am (and have been) such a target. I also have a particular interest in escorting, escorts, this profession, etc. I make no pretense to any particular, much less sinister knowledge, and certainly make no pretense to being "privy" to inside information. To my knowledge, I am not even slightly acquainted, either personally or professionally, with anyone who is in the employ or is an agent or representative of AOL Time Warner, or any of its myriad entities, including America On Line.

Satisfied?

RE: Of Course You Are Not . . .

Profiles for two of my AOL screen names were deleted twice in the last couple of weeks. Both talked about looking for escorts...nothing about reviews or this site. I complained to AOL since they did not send an email explaining the deletion and they acted as if I had deleted them.

On a similar subject...I have friend who's last name is "Cummings". Hotmail refuses to let her include her last name in her email address. She had to change it to Commings.
