Hey guyz,

I'm doing a Pacific Northwest tour end of August and would love to hotel recommendations in Seattle and Vancouver BC. I'm thinking the Seattle Center/Space Needle area for the hotel as there is ample parking and it's easy to get too. Vancouver it seems there is a good hotel on Burrard St that's also easy-access (kinda like me :-)

Thoughts? Thanks!

Mike

Hey Mike,

Glad to hear you are coming to Vancouver. I really hope you will have an amazing trip. I would like to mention two things:

Any hotel in the downtown will work well for you. It is a tiny city in a tiny peninsula and you will be close to everything. Burrard is pretty much the center of everything. I would also suggest to check hotels on Granville street and Davie. The most central of them all considering the gay village is The Sandman Suites on Davie. Cheap, clean, right in the middle of everything. Walking distance to every relevant gay destination. The only problem with that hotel is that your guests won't be able to come upstairs without a key, which means you will have to meet them at the lobby. A little inconvenient.

The other thing I wanted you to know is that Vancouver people are serious potheads. Even the ones who don't smoke it go through life in a marijuana haze and they have an almost irrational dislike for making plans and committing to a date. They also flake out a lot. They often believe that if the meeting was destined to happen it will, almost on its own. They are also serious procrastinators. They will look at your profile for months and be totally resolved to call you but somehow they never will... until you leave town and they regret not having called you. I am saying this because many escorts coming to Vancouver complaint that it is one of the worst cities for working. The phone never rings and then when they leave town they are bombarded with tons of emails full of regret for not having met you and ripe with promises of meeting you as soon as you come back.

What I recommend you to do is to post your ad earlier than you would for any other city, and when people contact you, you should try to as subtly as you can (Western Canadians don't take pushiness kindly) try to make them commit with a date and time. Let them know that you are already getting booked and that if they don't book as soon as they can they might miss the opportunity to meet you. When the date approaches, touch base again and say how excited you are of meeting them. (In case they have forgotten)

It sounds like a lot of work, and it is, but I can tell you that you will not find nicer, kinder, more relaxed clients anywhere in North America. The only trick is to learn to book them and keep them interested till they show up.

I know a few excellent escorts who came to Vancouver and had to cut their trip short because they thought that their reputation and world fame would bring all the boys to the yard. The boys didn't come. Too busy drinking bong water.

Plan ahead, be a little more assertive when closing, follow up. If you do this you will have a wealth of repeat clients in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Good luck, my friend. I might be out of town when you are here, but if you find yourself in a pickle and need some guidance please let me know.

they certainly didn't flake out during Expo 86, my last time up there....fantastic fair.....great people....might rival SF for most spectacularly situated city in North America....always great to read Juan's savvy posts

I spent Thanksgiving in Vancouver 3 years ago and stayed at the downtown Days Inn. It was reasonable, the service was excellent, and the room was immaculate, very comfortable and very quiet. It is within walking distance of almost everything, including the main subway station that gets you to and from the airport if you need it. I walked from the hotel to the Aquarium along the ocean front, to old town, to downtown for shopping, and to various restaurants for lunches and dinners. I went to a play on Granville Island one evening and took the bus, which picked me up and dropped me off about half a block from the hotel. It rained the entire 3 days I was there, but each room comes equipped with an enormous umbrella and I used it gratefully. If you want something fancier, along the ocean are several pricy hotels, including where Cory Monteith came to his end, and up the street from the Days Inn are several other expensive hotels. It's a great city with tastes for every price range. Enjoy.

Hi Mike,

So great that you'll be going to Seattle!

I'll be there around the same time, making stops in Vancouver and Portland as well :)

Seattle was the city I first started advertising in before my move to Los Angeles. I hope you find everyone in Seattle as friendly as I do. Downtown has its fair share of metropolitan charm and Capitol Hill is a fun 'gayborhood' to hang out in. If things don't work out with your lodging while you're there, I've provided a couple more recommendations:

As far as Downtown hotels go....

The Ace Hotel is the hipster locale: http://www.acehotel.com/seattle?em_x=22

Cool interiors, gay friendly staff.

Hotel Max has a different milieu http://www.hotelmaxseattle.com

Great art everywhere, dark interiors that are great for anonymity and discretion. Its close to a busy downtown intersection... you could easily slip out of a crowd and into the hotel. It has a tasteful and sexy atmosphere.

Let me know if you need a buddy, a guide or advice while you're in town. I'll be in the area August 29th - September 7th.

Have fun!

Rusty.

I wanted to quote Juan, but I'm on my phone and this forum isn't very Mobil friendly.

But he had my chuckling silently about his description of Vancouver clients. I would be livid to get the flurry of regret callers. Matter of fact, part of my 'test runs' that crossed my mind..would be to plan a trip, pretend I'm there, and see how many people would actually show up to my 'hotel' complete with address and room number. And then, when the regretful callers start calling once I 'leave', that'll be when I'm actually plan to arrive. You know, give em what they can't have so to speak. But it'd be my luck the people actually show up and I ruin a good thing.

That said, speaking personally on my behalf and nobody else, I didn't find Portland or Seattle very good cities like I imagined. the hotel prices were comparable to DC and San Fran but with less the work. I went during peak summer season and the area near the space needle was insanely expensive. I met 1 two hour client and a guy who looked like Bradley Cooper. Otherwise, I haven't necessarily been dreaming about returning
