Did anyone else see this malarky in the NYTimes Style section yesterday?? It claims that straight men are embracing their feminine sides to 'stand-out'! By having pedicures, wearing brighter colors, applying $40 face cream, urban men are setting themselves apart from suburban youth who crib the tough hip hoppers.

The jist of the article was that marketers are taking notice. What will be next, David Beckham ruinning around in drag?

I don't think it is malarky. I remember reading at least a year and half ago, that gay men were being hired as consultants to brighten up/open up the fashion, cosmetics and other markets for the so called "str8" male. I guess the effects are just now being noticed enough to merit a NYTimes article.

 

I say it is about time! Lord, how boring the male fashion industry has always been. I believe men's shoes for instance came in 3 choices for most of the 20th century (brown, black, oxblood - Boring!) Of course, I guess it might throw our gaydar out of whack? I guess we'll all have to wear little rainbow pins to recognize each other now.

Totally agree that Men's Fashions need a major overhaul. But shoes are not on the top of my list. Baggy trousers and jeans, oversize bathing suits and shorts. Sorry, it's time they went the way of polyester. If only the Sean John line would push something which indicates that there is a masculine body underneath that fabric!! I keep hoping!
