Hey guys I am in So California and need to file personal banruptcy chapter 7 due to mucho financial problems and old tax issues, and yes I know that not all of the tax issues will be resolved by BK.

So my question s does anybody know a good BK attorney who understands tax law? I don't really want to ask friends this question and definitely don't want to close my eyes and pick one fromt he yellow pages. So I am hoping one of you So Cal guys ... prefer LA or OC can suggest someone.

I'm not sure whether you are referring to a personal bankruptcy or a corporate bankruptcy. I don't know anyone in California who handles the former, but if you don't want to use the yellow pages I suggest you call the county bar association of the county in which you reside. They should have a lawyer referral service that can refer you to lawyers in your area who handle this type of matter.

If you want to check out the record of any lawyer to whom they or anyone else refers you, go to the website of the State Bar of California, where you can find out whether any given member of that organization is currently in good standing and has any record of ethical violations. You can also get some information on any lawyer to whom you are referred by doing a search on the martindale.com website.

Woodlawn, excellent suggestions and I will check into them today. I was completely lost on this topic as I never had considered this option (personal BK) I know that it will harm credit-wise for a while but hopefully that will fade away as time goes on.

There's a cute lawyer who does bankruptcy; he advertises in Frontiers Magazine in LA. I'm unaware of his adeptness at the law, etc. In connection with your bankruptcy-- I'd highly recommend the book CREDIT AFTER BANKRUPTCY by Stephen Snyder. It's superb.

All three of the attornys advertising in the frontiers are less than

100%.One is such a flake that you wonder how he got through Law school. The other is more interested in selling a credit repair service-STAY AWAY!!!!!This borders on fraud. And the third was wayyyyyy overpriced.

Get ahold of NOLO publications regarding bankruptcy. They will be a great comfort to you during this rough time in your life.

Make sure you get everything in order,ALL of your current bills, your pay stub etc.

"Friends"will advise you to keep one or two cards of the list of creditors, this can lead to problems both legally and personally.

You will be amazed how easy,if you are upfront and honest with your creditors, attorny, and the bankruptcy court with the FACTS regarding personal bankruptcy.

In Los Angeles, the Federal Bankruptcy "hearings"take place in front of an moderater, not a judge. The entire procedure at the fed'office takes less than three minutes.Anyone wishing to contest your right to bankruptcy will present his case then.A few chain stores(sears and robinsons)are famous for disputing the claims-don't worry,if you have done everything right it will go smoothly.

You can file a bankruptcy yourself-perfectly legal. However,an attorny to assist in this matter should not be more than $1000.It is a very simple and regular procedure.

GET THOSE NOLO PRESS BOOKS!

Yes, Chuck, your comment was needed, not only for the respondent but for many of us. Although I've liked the sex that the escorts and I have had-- it does become pricey and adds up rather quickly. I could be leasing and driving a new luxury auto from all of the added $$$$$$$$$'s I've expended on "hot"-- "hunky" men!
