Bugbear Virus - a Word of Warning

If you get an email from mfcarson@rlrpc.com do not open it. This email contains the bugbear virus. I caught it before it did any damage because my Norton anti-virus is set up for this virus. The subject is "YOUR COPY OF THE EMAIL YOU SENT Mary Carson".

 

I sent the whole thing to AOL and Earthlink. They are aware of the virus and now they know one email that contains it.

General rules about email viruses:

 

1) Anything from anyone you don't know is suspect. Delete.

 

2) Anything unexpected from someone you know is suspect. Call them and verify they intended to send something before opening.

 

3) In the case of #2, if they send something scan it for viruses before opening.

 

4) Microsoft doesn't EVER send out security updates in email. Ever.

 

5) Nobody in Nigeria needs your help getting money out of the country.

9) Get a spam-killer package like McAffee's SpamKiller or FireTrust's MailWasher that can get rid of the spam & viruses before it ever hits your inbox.
