I'm getting excited as tomorrow I'm going to visit this Druid (or was it Celtic?) temple for the very first time.

I took my car on Le shuttle s'il vous plait :-) (a first one too) all the way up to London. Surprisingly I'm getting used rather quickly driving on the "wrong" side on the road.

London always had its own charm ... even on a day like this

But at least Brits can laugh about it :-)

I love London. One thing that may surprise you is how close the motorway runs to Stonehenge, unless they have competed the plan to tunnel under and return the land back to its original state. That was the plan when I was there about ten years ago.

I believe Stonehenge, sadly, is still roped off so you can only see it from a remove. But it's still a powerful, elemental sight. Especially just before (or after) a storm.

You won't be far from Salisbury and its magnificent cathedral, or Bath with its wonderful Georgian architecture.

Steven, enjoy Stonehenge. It is quite a site. When I visited it a few years back, the weather was rainy with dark clouds. That made it even more mysterious. Will never forget the visit.

Don't remember the year. June 30. Cold, rainy, dark clouds. I think it doesn't like some of us (whoever we are) to go there. I think it was 45 F.

I used to have friends who lived in the Cathedral Close. It's a magnificent building with a copy of the Magna Carta.

Me too when I was there in 1989. I have some nice dramatic pictures with the storm clouds!

Enjoy the visit! I was there in 1996 and was impressed and glad I visited, but I wasn't quite as awed as I hoped and expected either. I think that aforementioned roadway had something to do with that. Sometimes you get that rush and sometimes you don't.

Let us know what you think.

I was there in the 80's and had a similar experience - didn't quite get the sense of awe I expected. I suspect the lack of proximity had something to do with it.

Hey Steven,

How was Stonehenge?

Ok, ok. It was worth the drive and I'm glad I visited.

It was heavily raining as we arrived at Stonehenge and suddenly a bright sun came out and the sky cleared up in a matter of minutes. That made it even more special for me. What spoiled it was the second part of the visit as we were turning counterclockwise and that motorway appeared behind the site (with noise and all). That took away the mystery for me.
