The great comic died on Thursday night in California. One of the greatest clowns of all time, he could make you laugh or at least smile just with one of his trademarked looks. He was popular on TV and in films but I enjoyed him from his many appearances on the old Johnny Carson show. What a brilliant man. Rest in peace.

A truly great improv comic, and one that Robin Williams always credited with inspiring him. Which is why it was always wonderful to see them together on Mork and Mindy. I can't imagine what it was like on the set with those two.

Thanks Jonathan for all the laughs.

Shared a few laughs with him at dinner parties. He had the most incredible comedic mind. Rest in peace, and may God be with him, and may God comfort those that he left behind.

I remember Jonathan Winters most from his appearances with Jack Paar (both on Paar's "Tonight Show" and the following four years on "The Jack Paar Program" at 10:00 on Friday nights). Paar gave Jonathan Winters extended periods of air time, and watched him get more and more crazy funny, without breaking in himself. Winters was truly one of a kind. I shall miss him.

slightly lesser known was his appearance in one of my all-time favorite movies, "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"....here's a great youtube - recently put together, apparently

I was quite annoyed with the news sources headlining "Mork and Mindy Star Dies at 87". That show is barely relevant these days, and was not the source of Jonathan Winters' notability. I did always admire his low-key nature. His personality was layered behind his humor, which is a trait Robin Williams might have studied a bit harder. While Winters has been rightly characterized as off-the-wall there was some subtlety to his delivery.

This is how the media operates today especially when the people running it are 27 years old. Mork and Mindy was never relevant.

I think he was most brilliant in that his delivery was so subtle, and while his characters were often powerful, he never allowed his character to over power the other actors....Yes azdr, that was just a laugh out loud movie from beginning to end.

Thanks Deej, that was delightful. I can't help but realize that his humor came without profanity, or racists jokes, or the degrading of anyone in particular. Just simply good clean humor, delivered with impeccable timing. During the times that I was blessed with his company, his mind never stopped spinning something mundane into to something that was hilarious. I just loved that man, so kind and gentle.

Yes, he did improv with props his entire career. One of the clips on YouTube shows him on an empty stage behind a table. Someone hands him a pen and pencil set in a clamshell case and he's off. Phenomenal talent.
