"View First Unread"

I just noticed the "View First Unread" link/button at the top of each forum discussion. Damn, how long has that been there? I'm a big fan of it, it's a lifesaver in those threads going for five or six pages.

 

Am I the only one who didn't know about this?

I'm assuming that you know about the "What's New" button on the home page. It will bring up all the new threads/posted on threads since your last visit.

 

There is also a blue double arrow (pointing downwards) on the left side of the title. That will function as a "View First Unread" button on the thread as well.

Not sure when I first discovered it, but I've been using it for quite a while! (I prefer it to the 'What's new' feature because I only read 3-4 Forums.) The only problem I've found is that if I come to the site and don't read everything new, it sometimes marks everything as read anyway.

I've noticed that too. Still a big improvement over my previous viewing habits.

Honestly, I had hoped that'd be one of the results of posting this. Working in IT, I've found too many tricks that 1) made my life easier and 2) made me think "How did I not know about this before, EVERYONE else must know about it"...and then find out there's a lot of people who did not know about it. A willingness (or at least indifference) to appearing stupid is sometimes a boon.

Working in IT, I've found too many tricks that 1) made my life easier and 2) made me think "How did I not know about this before, EVERYONE else must know about it"...and then find out there's a lot of people who did not know about it. Poolboy, thanks for calling my attention to this feature. While I visit this forum regularly, I've somehow overlooked this useful tool until reading your thread.
