I have read the thread about the White Party and it aroused my curiosity. I have heard about "Curcuit Parties" in the past but really don't know what goes on at these events. What exactly are Curcuit Parties? What do they cost and how does someone get invited? I noticed on the White Party thread that one of the poster mentioned it could cost $2,000. What do you get for that type of money????

Many circuit parties are named different colors. Like the White Party Thanksgiving Day Weekend in Miami. You'd think these fags could be a little more creative in not using the same names, like the recent White Party in Palm Springs. The Original circuit party was here in Columbus over 20 years ago. A local gay artist, Corbett Reynolds, started having private parties after he closed his bar. It evolved into the RED PARTY, which was held annually until 2001. He died last spring and the organizers changed the name to the Chrome Party...whatever. There's the Black and Blue Party in Toronto and the Black Party in NYC. Southern Decadence in New Orleans, Hotlanta in Atlanta, IML in Chicago and I'm sure I'm leaving some out.

Usually one night events, many are turning into LONG weekend deals.

Most benefit some local charities, like the White Party in Miami benefits an aids charity, Care South(?).

Usually held in a large venue, there can be several thousand guys at the main event. "Famous" DJs are flown in and play dance music in shifts. The parties usually last all night.

Increasingly, they're becoming rather decadent with LOTS of drugs and sex everywhere. I saw SO many guys that couldn't even walk they were so fucked up. Hot guys who can be VERY friendly (depending upon their drug combo)and no one seems to own a shirt.

Interesting you'd mention IML.

IML did not start out to be a circuit party. It USED to be an event where guys interested in the leather lifestyle gathered. It was very successful at that for a long time.

Now, yes, it's pretty much a circuit party where pretty boys wear leather, and the true "leather community" has great disdain for it.

It's interesting to note that the founder drew an audible gasp from the audience last year with a plea for saner and safer sex practices.

How DARE he???

The other big Chicago circuit event is FireBall, held on President's Day weekend. (February for you non-US folks.)

You've described them well, Jeff, but please don't lump IML into that. They're trying to bring it back to what it was.

Sorry deej, I certainly hope they're able to return IML to what it started out as. Circuit Party boys in leather is just not right. LOL!

I think I mentionned the $2000 cost, but that's the high end range. People can spend as little as they want (maybe a couple hundred dollars). I was talking about the BIG circuit week/weekend events (not the local circuit party every weekend). I was at the Black Party in NY and Winter Party Miami last month and just got back from Palm Spring's White Party (when the parties are named for a color, that usually means to wear that particular color for the main event).

Figure this for the recent White Party:

Hotel room at host hotel for three nights ($600 plus)

Airfare ($250-400)

Tickets to all the parties (from $35-500)... I went to them all!

Food and Drinks ($100-150)... all for bottled water... you DON'T eat for three days! LOL... well, maybe a tic tac.

Party Favors (ummmmmm, no comment... but figure some amount)

Circuit Parties do favor the young and built, but they are OPEN to everyone. They're not private. Sure, you can feel a bit out of place if alone, but once you meet some circuit friends, it's the most amazing time of your life. I have become very good friends with people from the circuit. It's a very social atmosphere... yeah, some guys can have attitude, but most are very friendly (while intoxicated or "partying").

There is rampant drug use, but when you only sleep for a couple hours in three days, you need something besides a Red Bull to keep alert! Just remember to shower and bring extra pairs of jeans... shirts are a nice gesture (but they usually come off within minutes).

Imagine 1000's of hot shirtless boys dancing on a dance floor... all smiling... all touchy feely...

Need I say more? I'm SO there later this year in Orlando, SF, San Diego, Provincetown, Austin, Montreal, Columbus, New Orleans... and so on. It's truly an amazing time filled with men of all backgrounds (race and financially)... simply "rolling". }(

There was a documentary type movie out in 2002 about circuit parties entitled "When Boys Fly" if you would like to see a little bit about some of the stuff that goes on at them. I haven't seen it myself, but a few of my friends have and they say that it depicts the negative side of such events pretty heavily (ie the drug use and rampant sex).

From what I saw last weekend in Palm Springs, the town gets so packed with guys of all types, that you don't even have to attend any of the official White Party events. A lot of guys had fun just going to the clubs and stuff.

I lucked out and found someone at the door selling a $100 ticket for $80 to the White Party Sat night.

I had the impression though that if they could have figured out a way to charge extra for the water in the pool at the pool parties, they would have!
