I'll be staying in NYC this weekend for a couple of days. Whilst looking for hotels, I was surprised how reasonable many of them were.....well reasonable by new York standards. There seemed to be plenty available in the $250-$300 a night range ( Sheraton, Hilton, etc). Also some lesser hotels in $200/night category. I remember looking at NY hotel rates earlier in the year and struggling to find anything decent for under $400.

Now Stephen, I know the Brits get teased about their food quite a bit.....but some of it can be quite tasty. Some of my favorites include: An English breakfast, summer pudding, and a Sunday roast of pork or beef. Yum. Having said that, I do turn my nose up at steak & kidney pie and also black pudding. Yuck!

Last time I was in NYC, I stayed at the Hampton Inn near the Empire State Building. Great location for subway and close to Penn Station.

It is a fairly new facility (I was one of the first 10 guests). They offer a free breakfast which helps with costs.

Have also stayed at the New Yorker Hotel. Also close to Penn Station. But the New Yorker is a much older facility. However, I did enjoy my stay there and it also has good subway access.

Have another trip booked for NYC in April. Staying closer to the theater district. Haven't been to this hotel (yet) but it is highly recommended.

I've stayed at the Chelsea Savoy Hotel (W. 23rd between 8th and 9th) Good location, clean decent rooms, but it's a hotel only. No restaurant/bar etc. Plenty of eateries nearby. It's been a couple of years since my last stay. and now that I'm thinking of it, it might be between 7th and 8th.. I'm gettin' old :(

It's on the corner of 23rd and 7th, between 7th and 8th.
