Fear of being alone?

When I began this thread I had no idea if anyone would respond and was gratified when some did. I find it interesting to see where it has led various posters---from my basic question of "fear of being alone..." to discussion of dying and the various diseases that take us there. My initial curiosity about the fear of being alone has been satisfied---some like me do not have that fear, others do and some are in between.

For those in my age range who were Simon and Garfunkel fans, I think it appropriate to reveal that one of my favourites of theirs is "I am a rock, I am an island." Seems to summarize my feelings about lots of things.
