Hey guys, I am touring to DC June 28-july2nd for a last minute, unexpected and, frankly, underplanned trip. I have visited DC often so I know it well as a tourist but this will be my first working foray into the Capital city. I have had numerous clients tell me that I would do well there so I fancy this to be the first of numerous regular visits since my moms health is finally allowing me to travel out of state. My question is this: the variety of hotels and neighborhoods seem overwhelming as far as where it is convienient for my clients and where they will be comfortable? Price range is also extreme from $539 a night for 5 star to 150 a night for 3 star. Is there really that much difference? I know dupont is the gayer neighborhood and very nice but alot of nice hotels in Alexandria. Is alexandria an option? Also, timing? This trip is what it is and when it is but is DC better during week or on weekends. I notice hotel rates are way low on weekends. Does this mean it is a ghost town on weekends? Thanks for everyones' imput. By the way my entire summer touring schedule is in my ad @ http://www.rentboy.com/mikey9nola1. Am headed FINALLY to NYC, CHICAGO, PITTSBURG, PHILADELPHIA and back to HOTLANTA as well as my old hometown of NEW ORLEANS.....ps...this is a driving tour for me so i will have my car so virginia, maryland and delaware are easy options for me to get to. http://www.rentmen.com/mikeyusatop

Mickey,

DO not stay in Alexandria.... you need to stay in the Dupont Circle area. The Kimpton Hotel is very gay friendly, and has some good rates. Some of the rooms at the end of the hall ways are very large and perfect for entertaining your guests. You don't need to stay in a 5 star hotel, as some of your clients will think your fees to high !!! I also suggest you ask Rocking Dave for some advise, as he lives there and has a "studio" that he uses for his clients.

Have a good time. DC can be a lot of fun, even in the hot humid weather that occurs this time of year. Hotel rates usually go down when Congress is out of session, and staying in smaller hotels away from the tourist attractions, like the Mall, etc. will mean you will have less families with kids running around in the lobby.

I would suggest the Rosslyn Key Bridge Holiday Inn....great rates, each room has a double or single balcony and believe it or not they have free parking...plus it is a block and a half from a metro station and right over the Key Bridge, across from Georgetown...so it is very close to DC.

In the past Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax County have been known to cause problems for escorts. I would be very cautious in Northern Virginia.

I've seen stings of the garden variety against women, street hustlers and Craigslist—but nothing against M4RN or Rentboy. Do you have some info?

I remember they went after guys in the Blade and massage sites such as massagem4m and masseurfinder. Alexandria was even calling people in DC to come over the state line.

Ugh. You'd think if the cops wanted a money-making enterprise they'd go after litterers or some such.

July 4th is big tourist thing in DC (huge fireworks, concerts, etc.) and that may be what you're hitting. OTOH, I would imagine that priceline, etc. could get you into large business hotels like the Wardman Marriott or Omni Shoreham (right off the Woodley Park Metro, up the hill from Dupont and nearby to Adams-Morgan) at good prices---I've known people who've had that luck around other holidays. In fact, I'm at a huge meeting that will end right before your dates at the Wardman and if last year is any guide, the place is likely to be empty from the 28th onward. The Washington Hilton which is close to Dupont and walkable to Adams Morgan is likely to be in a similar position. I'm told that Kimpton (which owns many small DC hotels) tends to dump inventory on the market close to the date of vacancies. They don't appeal to the usual July 4th tourists and so they might become available closer to your dates. There are hotels that would be convenient, but are in lower profile locations like the Capitol Hill Hyatt, or the fancier Henley Park (a colleague got $200/night there during a recent meeting). There are nice but not "first class" hotels like the Hilton Garden Inn or the Courtyard by Marriott that have locations near Thomas Corcle or the McPherson Metro and they may have affordable rates. Credible guys (i.e., guys who stop here or are swooned about here) have stayed in those places.

I'd skip Alexandria because you'll be limiting your market by being away from the center and its really only convenient to a limited slice of the suburbs. A credible 3 star place with a central location will work fine. Looking a bit on the periphery of the center like the Wardman or the Capitol Hill Hilton also might help.

I went to Washington often one summer, and I stayed at the Hotel Washington (just before it became a W). There's an rooftop bar with a beautiful view of the WH. I don't know how escort-friendly they are though. The prices around July 3rd are $229 for a queen bed.

Mikey - The Hilton on Connecticut Ave., just north of Dupont Circle, is very big so good for client traffic and might have good rates. Also walking distance to metro. What hotels have you narrrowed your list down to?

Sorry, Travis,

The last time I stayed at that Hilton it was very unfriendly for visitors of any kind. Lots of security folks milling around and often engaging in conversations with guests to see if they really were staying there.

The Palomar just west of Dupont and the Marriott across the street are very gay friendly and would be a much better choice and both run specials, so suggest that Mickey check out some web sites. and I believe that the Gay Cities Guide for DC lists gay friendly hotels and gives customers ratings.

Hope you have a great time in DC, Mickey.

Weird thing is I had the exact opposite encounters at the Hilton and Palomar. Palomar likes to have full name for any access after the doors lock and you walk right into the front desk people staring at you. Good luck Mikey. Maybe you should specialize in outcalls while in DC. Ritz Carlton and 4 Seasons are actually very easy as only requiring first names. They understand the art of being discreet and making sure their guests get the "entertainment" they desire.

Well, Mikey is concerned. Don't be judgmental.

If Mikey is looking to work in DC then by all means avoid the Fourth of July, you might end up twiddle your thumbs.

On the other hand if you're visiting relatives, spending some quality time with friends or watch the fireworks on the Mall it's worth staying for Independence Day in DC.
