So instead of just talking about shoes, here is a more general shopping thread. Posts about clothes, shoes, accessories, watches, items for the home, or anything else you want to talk about are welcome.

I'll open the thread. I just bought this dress online

I usually prefer to alter stuff in my own closet rather than buy new clothes, but I couldn't turn this one down. My color is white, and I'm always looking for white dresse that look different from what I've already got. Almost all the sizes were out. Then, my size suddenly appeared, perhaps because of a return. Of course, the downside of online purchases is that you often have to return things. For example, what looks white on the screen is often ivory in person. However, there is one advantage over in-person buying, namely that you don't need to face a scowling salesperson to return stuff; you just stick the label on the box and send it off.

Firstly, if I saw this dress online, it would be ivory to ME. Secondly, there is a cost attached to returning something online. Always a postage cost, and sometimes a Re-stock, so you end up spending money and have nothing to show for it... I havent had much luck with online purchases. Stuff always looks great in the pictures, but less than acceptable in person. I honest think they photograph proto-types and NOT the actual garment. My only online purchases are from EBAY, and for the most part I am stuck with what i get, or International Male.

While I used to love their clothing offerings, not so much anymore, as they have gotten tacky ! I use them for underwear and swimwear, but the stuff never looks the same on me as on those Beautiful, built boys....

I'd do you in that dress. And then take you out for a nice fried fish dinner.

That's a very attractive watch, Joseph. Congrats on the increase in sales.

This store charges $9.50 to ship the dress back to them with their label, which is very reasonable. I could probably save a few bucks by shipping it using priority mail, but then I'd need to stand in line at the PO.

You're probably right that Cartier (for example) uses prototypes in ads for its watches. For clothes, though, I doubt they can make a prototype for each garment being sold. They may do some tailoring though.

As far as the color, I've found that it's impossible to predict from the screen. A lot depends on the light. If I'm wrong, I guess I'm out the shipping costs!

Max, it sounds like you're dress-sexual. As far as the fried fish dinner, that sound great as long as it's at Per Se. :D

Gorgeous and classy little frock there, FF!

Tyro

Thanks, Tyro! We'll see how it looks in person.

Now fluffy, will you go with a nude shoe, or opt for a pop of Color ????? I am more into pops these days, but I know the fashion world swoons over the Nude pump....

Damn girl..I've been gone for a couple of days and I see you got all the gay boys all in a tizzy over this talk of fashion...what we need to see now is a pic of 'you' modeling this stuff. ;)

Good question. The nude shoe look is popular because it makes the legs look longer. But I have yet to find a comfortable, round toed heel in that color.

I might go with the pair I posted before, since they're white with a pop of pink. A skimpy black slide also works, since it matches my dark hair, which itself plays a major part in any of my looks.

"A pop of color?" You bet!

It was in a Macy's circular that I was just reading when I got home tonight. It's $99, and there's some coupon on the front of the circular that offers another 15% off with the WOW! Pass.

Hurry in for best selection. Quantities limited. Prices slightly higher in Alaska and Hawaii. Subject to prior sale. Sale prices not eligible on previous purchases. May not be combined with other offers. Opening a new credit account may qualify you for additional discounts. Being a total prick to the salesperson may nullify this offer. Excludes everyday value items, specials, super buys and gifts being bought for someone else's boyfriend. Sales tax not included. Luxury fuck you I'm rich and don't care about tax is included in the salesperson's attitude at no additional charge. Asking to speak to the manager may qualify you for added benefits. Free online shipping, but if you want to take this with you today, we will charge an additional $0.05 for a shopping bag, and an additional $0.02 for one with handles. Prices are offering prices and savings may not be based on actual sales. Prices in US dollars. Extra if using a credit card. Don't even ask about using Euros, even though this is Macy's. Selection may vary by store. No phone orders. Savings are rounded down to the nearest dollar. F-you if you can't take a joke.

I thought you were talking about the dress. I've never seen Kors' dresses (except for the bridge line on deep discount) go for anywhere near that price!

The irony is that I dislike shopping. I know, what kind of a fag hag am I? Going through tons of duds is boring, and since I only buy if something looks outstanding, I rarely find anything. I can go through things much more quickly online than in a store.

FF....I know nothing about fashion, but I know a winner when I see one. I bought some of KORS common stock right after the company's IPO. That purchase has returned a handsome profit. So yall please please please keep buying Kors stuff. That's my buy-n-tell. :)

Part of the "shopping" experience is feeling the fabric, seeing how it moves and how it flatters you.... You dont get all that shopping online. PLUS, if you shop in the store, you can take your initial purchase and then go "accessorize" it. I rarely have anything to "go with" when I buy something new, so I immediatley buy all the "side dishes" with it....

FF - have you tried all those new online Shoe companies that offer a Fabulous pair of shoes, FREE shipping and a personal shopper for only $39.95 ???? The city girls swoon over those $39.95 shoes. They look expensive, at least $40.00......:D

That's true, and many items from online don't work out for that reason. But given the low number of items that even enter my consideration set, the time and monetary cost of travel to the store and time spent at the store exceeds whatever shipping costs and return costs I pay online.

As far as cheap shoes, Aerosoles and Easy Spirit occasionally make excellent ones, especially for work. I ofte buy one pair and then, over time, spend 10x as much money repairing it. So I've learned to buy multiples if something is really good

FF, somehow I never took you for an Aerosoles or Easy Spirit kinda girl.... When I hear those names, I somehow think of "nuns" shoes.....

Posted

Ah, that's why I said "occasionally." Once in a blue moon, they make highly attractive, comfortable stacked heel slingbacks. The rest of the time, they make nun shoes or poor knock offs of trendy shoes.

(And I need comfort for work. Teaching involves a lot of walking around, and even in great shoes, my feet are incredibly sore by the end of the week. Of my colleagues, I'm the only one who wears heels at all.)

So anyone else? More new watches? Sexy brown Italian shoes? Are custom made suits worth the time and cost?
