What are some decent moderately priced hotels in central Boston? I need a place that's easily accessible for escorts, but I don't need Egyptian linens and artistically carved soaps. Someplace clean, up-to-date, with a friendly staff -- does such an animal even exist?

Boston hotels are notoriously high priced, especially in desired neighborhoods like Back Bay. Check hotels.com I just saw a decent deal for a Best Western in Longwood. Also, search hotels in Cambridge, just across the river.. Also check out the Chandler Inn. It's a gay hotel, reasonably priced, connected to Fritz (gay bar). It's not the nicest place, kind of old, but clean and convenient to the gayborhood. Good Luck!

Here are some of the hotels where I have seen escorts and they seem to be escort friendly or tolerant.. The prices vary wildly depending on conferences and other (mysterious) factors. Check hotels.com for your dates. These are all decent hotels, which are centrally located.

Courtyard by Marriott Boston Copley Square

The Boston Park Plaza Hotel

Marriott Boston Copley Place

Boston Common Hotel & Conference Center (despite its name, it is located just off Copley Square—used to be called the John Hancock Conference Center). Often has escorts staying there. A hidden treasure.

The Midtown Hotel— especially if you have a car in Boston and foolishly intend to drive it. Near Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall (for music lovers) and the Mother Church.

Courtyard by Marriot Boston Downtown/Tremont Hotel

Holiday Inn Boston at Beacon Hill—next door to Mass General Hospital.

Boston Omni Parker House Hotel (oldest hotel in Boston, still OK and the originator of Parker House rolls).

DoubleTree by Hilton Boston Downtown (a little off where you might want to stay, it is in the old Washington Street/Downtown area wehre many businesses have failed. )

Chandler Inn Hotel A “gay” hotel over a gay bar (Fritz) and rooms are OK, recently refurbished, but small… I mean small.

Marriott Boston Copley Place

I second the Marriott Copley Place. This hotel has its own history, it is located in the heart of Back Bay close to Back Bay Metro and train station plus you can get in and out the hotel with minimum of hassle.

I've stayed at the Marriott Copley tons of times.. Nice hotel, easy in and out, but at the $400+ rack rate, not "moderately" priced.. unless you can find a deal.

I know it isn't cheap but most hotels in the city are around 200. Hell, I went by the Howard Johnson near Fenway park and saw they were advertising 150, I would never pay 150 for a Howard Johnson ^.^

What do you guys think of Hotel Marlowe, a Kimpton Hotel?

I have never been there, it is odd because most of the boutique hotels are right in downtown where you can easily walk anywhere. This one does look really nice though. I have stayed in the Onyx, another Kimpton Hotel. It was also very nice and very close to the South End. I know Madonna prefers the Nine Zero if that means anything, it's also a Kimpton Hotel. It is right in the busy tourist area basically right across the street from the common and state capitol building.

Just checking for you randomly for April 4 on hotels.com. Park Plaza $129; Midtown (Motor Inn) $129; Charlesmark $179, Boston Common Hotel and Conference Center (a good choice in Copley Square) $169. Bulfinch Hotel (which had not been previously mentioned—located on the site of the old 119 Merrimac bar) $149; Chandler Inn $129. All of these are well-located and respectable—though not high-end luxury —hotels. The rack rate of these hotels has very little to do with what you can get them for on the right day on one of the internet travel sites.

As for the Hotel Marlowe, a Kimpton Hotel, which Rod asked about, it is located in Lechmere in Cambridge, and unless you are mostly interested in going to the Museum of Science, it is not well located for a visitor.

Timing is almost everything in Boston. If you are going to be near the Fens, then you need the Red Sox home/away schedule. If you will be near Boston Garden you need the Celtics and Bruins schedules. Conventions affect the price of rooms and then!!!!! there is GRADUATION. Graduation in Boston is like no other. It begins in early May and lasts until late June, when over 100 institutions of higher learning with more than 300,000 students, hold their gradutions.

A few of the larger ones for this year:

Northeastern University - May 4, 2012

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, Commencement (B) - May 11, 2012

Berklee College - May 12, 2012

Emmanuel College - May 12, 2012

Boston Conservatory - May 12, 2012

Fisher College - May 12, 2012

Emerson College - May 14, 2012

Simmons College - May 18, 2012

Bentley University - May 19, 2012

Lesley University - May 19, 2012

Babson College - May 19, 2012

Suffolk University - May 20, 2012

Boston University - May 20, 2012

Brandeis University- May 20, 2012

New England Conservatory - May 20, 2012

Tufts University - May 20, 2012

The New England College of Optometry - May 20, 2012

Boston College - May 21, 2012

Harvard University - May 24, 2012

North Shore Community College - May 24, 2012

New England Law Boston - May 25, 2012

Northeastern University School of Law - May 25, 2012

Boston College Law School - May 25, 2012

Boston Architectural College - May 26, 2012

University of Massachusetts Boston - June 1, 2012

Massachusetts Institute of Technology - June 8, 2012

There is another bump in August/September when the Students return. then there is "Moving Day" (September 1). Almost all leases in Boston start Sept 1, so every Uhaul in America is on the streets of Boston that day.

OMG, I had no idea! Thanks for all that info. As planned now, I expect my stay to be in the first week of June, so I should be able to bypass all but UMass and MIT, although granted, those are two biggies.

Tx again!

MOVING DAY is not a law, ordinance, or rule. It's more like a tradition or a guideline. Since so much of Boston's housing depends on the academic year, it just sorta happened and now it keeps on sorta happening. It is a little less stricly observed than in days of yore (read 60s and 70s). But it still represents proabably 70% of the less costly rentals.
