I've been to traffic court here in my hometown twice. On both occasions, the police officer failed to show up and my cases were dismissed. Other than having to take a half-day off work, the experience wasn't unpleasant.

Don't count on that happening in California. Cops get paid time-and-a-half for half a day simply to appear in court. They are also required to appear, unless unable (i.e. subpoened to appear in two courts at the same time).

Indeed. Even knowing that they were going to dismiss my case, or at least being prepared to, 3 cops showed up. I never figured out who the third cop was. But, he took the oath, so perhaps he was going to testify in sync with what the main cop said...at least until I got the order separating witnesses. Overtime must be paid!
