The Gerald Ford estate is advertised here in the local real estate listings, naturally, and what surprised me was that one could even buy the family portraits in place on the walls.

Guess everything has a price! It'd be a great place to host the annual Hooville function. Tell Oliver to dig deep

But talk about confused writing. That first paragraph - UGH!

"Off limits to the public when it was the retirement home of the late President Gerald and Betty Ford, the Rancho Mirage compound that the couple custom built recently welcomed a stream of newspaper and television journalists. The flurry of publicity was to get the word out that this piece of American history is for sale. The asking price: $1,699,000."

Recently? The couple custom built the house recently? Gerald has been dead since 2006.

I think we need a good editor.

lol. Your reading never occurred to me until you posted this. I read it as 'recently welcomed', which I'm sure was the intent. But you're re right - the fact that it could be read as you did implies a need for editing.
