Only too happy to oblige. History is one of my passions and I had just finished reading "And the Show Went On" by Alan Riding, who used to work for the NYTimes and now lives in Paris. There were many colorful figures in his book and Arletty was one of them.

 

I loved the line about the uniforms too. It's funny that since the war, the Nazi uniform has become identified with S&M and the dominatrix scene. I suppose to save her skin Arletty couldn't have said "I welcome all uniforms in my bed!". At the time that probably would have got her shot!
