Madonna's 1/2 Time ...Cirque Du Soleil

Hopefully her "Cleopatra Entering Rome" type Entrance was a Nod to Liz Taylor? Wait for it!!!!!! She definitely is No Ms. Taylor....

Although Madonna was a nice "Ring Master" for the Extragavagant Circus she put together!

But will she ever get passed the now what 30 year Old Music she apparently lipsync's Vogue!

She sure ain't evolving and rumour has it her Concert Prices are way out of line for HER Nostalgia.... CHER is definitely a better ticket! IMHO as always..;)

One thing that I find interesting though is the praise that Kelly Clarkson is getting for her National Anthem. I thought she did a great job. But so many are congratulating her simply because she didn't screw it up. A professional musician, not screwing up a short song, gets praise simply for not messing up? Seems like a pretty low hurdle to clear. Yet so many haven't cleared it.

I have heard LBT that it is a really difficult song to sing. No? Apparently some of the notes are off the charts, others here with musical experience might confirm that, but that is what I have heard all through the years.

Difficult for an amateur singer? Probably. But not for a pro. It's under a 2 octave range in notes. And I would hope most would know the melody. But even then, forgetting the words isn't an excuse. Especially if you have months to practice.

But whether she would screw up was supposedly one of the prop bets in Vegas. And that is sad.

I was reading your post about how so many have not 'cleared the hurdle'..and began laughing, because I remember sooo many over the years that as you said couldn't clear that hurdle..There have been some real disasters out there. I don't get it really, like you said, you have months to practice, I remember a couple of times the singer actually got booed...As a pro, that is something that you should never screw up.

From NPR:

It is in fact that time of year when muscle-bound young men toss around a tan piece of leather for the entertainment of millions. But Madonna's halftime show is only part of the appeal.

I know a lot has to do with the limitations of the venue, but the start of the show was less than I expected. (Of course, I expected a lot so that's probably part of it.) Somehow the Vogue number needed more energy for me. That being said, LAP came off beautifully. That song was made for the stadium.

By low hurdle do you mean singing the national anthem (an important symbol of who we are as citizens of the USA), a cherished/heartfelt song, live with no backups in front of a huge stadium crowd and one of the largest TV audiences (nationally and globally)? The pressures must be immense and I think there are very few who would not be somewhat intimidated by such a responsibility. Kelly is a professional singer but she is still human and is prone like everyone else to their own foibles and weaknesses so mistakes can be made, as evidence in the past with other performers. It's not just another day at the office for her by any means and 5 months of practice isn't going to prepare you for that venue with that song.

I totally missed the finger flip. Then again, I totally missed Janet's nippleflip as well. I guess I don't have great eyesight.

Whilst MIA's middle finger was out of line and inappropriate, I hope this doesn't turn into a big scandal like the Janet Jackson thing did.

Note to Kevin Slater: in the last 15-20 years, Madonna hasn't been doing the original vogue moves when she performs the song. I remember in the 1993 Girlie Show tour, when she did vogue, they did more Asian-Thai type moves to the song.

I wanted more classic vogue moves from Madonna.

It's quite possible the original choreographer had a great lawyer who drew up an iron-clad contract. Whenever an artist contributes to another artist's work, an iron-clad contract is the norm because all art work produced is protected by copyright laws. If you're working for someone extremely famous (and wealthy), it would be considered very unprofessional to provide creative services without a contract.

An iron-clad contract could stipulate that the "singer" is permitted to use the "choreography," created by the choreographer, for a specific period of time, for a specific project. Beyond those stipulations, another contract would be required to use the creations in another capacity.

Without a contract, changing the "original" choreography is the only way to avoid a lawsuit.
