There was a time when if someone posted frequently here, someone else would come along and tell him to get a life. We don't see that so much anymore as people come to understand that some folks just like to post on forums.

But an email from tripadvisor.com today commending its top posters got my attention. One poster had 14,298 posts for the year! Another submitted 531 reviews. Another contributed 4,103 photos. The most verbose review was 9,166 words.

So, when you see someone with a 1000 or so posts in a year, well, that's nothing!

They don't need to get a life until they have 15,000 posts a year. That would probably make them the top internet poster of all.

14,298 posts seems like a lot -- 40 posts per day -- but believable. However, 531 reviews in a year seems suspicious. Aren't most tripadvisor.com reviews for hotel rooms? Even if they stayed in a different hotel every night of the year, that would only be 365.

At least as far as "daddy's" is concerned, for me the issue is not how many posts one submits, but the value or contributions of said posts for the greater forum. People that post alot only become annoying in certain situations.....such as when the posting content is frequently irrelevant to the topic, when it is someone that just wants to be a practical joker and really posts little of value, when the poster sreams alot (lots of CAPS) or when the goal is to make as many posts as possible rather than make the most valid contributions. Probably other situations as well. For me, a posters measure comes down to quality not quantity. As long as they keep up the quality, post away I say.

I don't think that I would ever say "get a life" I can understand the addiction and interest in staying on a forum and communicating to strangers in cyber space most of the day....But Good God, there are so many wonderful and interesting things going on in every city, I just don't understand being glued to your computer. There are mornings when I will look at the 'Lounge' and just see like 20 new threads, and I will start to respond to one and then just catch myself and say, "What the heck are you doing?" I got things to do today, and I will just walk away until I have free time...L O L like now as an example... It is already almost 11 am. and I have so much to do, I haven't even started Christmas shopping...Cya all later.

I found the "Ignore" and put it into effect on the only one that I think posts simply to 1. gain a higher rank; 2. stick his nose into everything and 3. Assuage what must be his incredible need for attention.

I've been on the forum for many, many years....back into the Hooboy days and this is the only person who has pushed me to 'ignore' him. I must be a very small person because even seeing his name turns me off.

Just saying.

And to reply to EZE, quality is in the eye of the Beholder..... Not everyone has the same needs and expectations from public Forums, and they approach them differently. For those that take an overly serious road, if there is a poster you do not appreciate or topics that are not your cup of Tea, DONT read them or put the poster on ignore. And if that isnt suitable, the offended party can start their own site with their own rules and Run the show.

More news today from tripadvisor.com. Over the years, I have submitted 53 reviews, which have been viewed by 16,599 people.

But wait! 10,100 people read just one of my reviews, and that was for a Ground Zero hotel and included a commentary on the new 9/11 Memorial.

The latter info is probably what people were interested in as I was one of the first reviews on it.

Damn, 14k+ posts. I'd better get busy.

Well at least I posted more than their measly 4k pictures at least.

I can occasionally get a bit silly and off topic, but I try to post things that I think are pertinent to a topic or things that members (and lurkers) might enjoy. And if i don't, just swat me on the nose with a rolled up newspaper. I respond pretty well to discipline.

I heard that you liked a good rolled up newspaper, Lee, but it wasn't being used on your nose in the story that came my way!

Nope, newspaper for the nose, flogger and paddled for ass and back, bananas and truffles for, well, you can guess.

You forgot the brussel sprouts. You have to have a well balanced diet plus lots of physical activity to maintain your personal lifestyle.
