The bf used his phone last month for 18 minutes, and it cost me about $2 per minute.

So how do I find a cheap, reliable cell phone that will only charge for what he actually uses? I appreciate any help.

I may be wrong, but I think pay-as-you-go phones (no contract) give you some credit amount of minutes and months together and you have to renew (refresh) at the end of the months or minutes, whichever comes first....I have a Net 10 phone I got at Target or WalMart and pay $30 every two months (after the initial purchase that came with credit)....I have a bunch of minutes built up that I'll never use, but it's the time that runs out for me....

I'm sure there are other options, but that's my experience....it's not my main cell....

The problem with many of these plans is that the minutes expire in a relatively short time. My original cell phone (before I changed to a smartphone) was a prepaid phone from T-Mobile. If you prepaid for $100 worth of minutes, they lasted for a full year, and you could add any amount you wanted after that and the limit was extended for a full year. That was by far the best deal around, and I was very happy with their service in all respects. Check online at tmobile.com to see if they still offer that deal or something similar.

yeah, for awhile I had t-mobil prepaid that I used as an alternative number...however I recently added a line. T-mobil, at&t, boost, virgin mobil are all good ones although I only have experience with the 1st 2.

I found that adding a line for $20 more a month was a lot better than paying $10 seemingly once a week on t-mobil's prepaid service. Just remember, that extra line is part of the contract, you can't just drop it if you change your mind which sucks.

$2 a minute sounds ludicrous. Was he calling Saturn? Even when I was going to Canada, the going rate was $.59 a minute on t-mobils plan. I was going to get there and switch to a pre-paid sim card for the time being.

Gee, $2 per minute sounds like a rip-off. I have an AT&T Go phone with no contract. They charge $0.10 per minute.

You can chose between the $2 a day unlimited talk and text or $0.10 a minute with no daily fee. Similar to other companies, the $100 refill credit will last for a year.

Check this link to see AT&T's rate plans for a Go Phone http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-plans/pyg-cell-phone-plans.jsp?

I don't think Lucky was knowingly paying $2 a minute!.....the bf just wasn't talking much that month on the phone and, averaged out, the rate plan came out to that....he could've talked a lot more and the average would've been less, of course....must've been about $36/month for this plan!!!....

azdr0710, you hit it on the nose. He just doesn't need a phone too often. The AT&T contract expires in January. I went over to their store yesterday to see why we had to pay for a wrong number from Thailand...some $4.

The store had shut down. AT & T may be in trouble!

Additionally, to add him to my Verizon account would add $30 a month to the bill. I would like to cut that in half.
