A musical starring Raul Esparza, and based on the Steve Martin film about an evangelical con man has been deemed ready for Broadway, and will begin next fall.

The show had first been produced in Los Angeles, where this writer hated it. Other reviews were what is politely called "mixed."

For the new production, 25 minutes have been cut and five new songs written for it will be added.

Producers expect it to cost between 10 and 15 million dollars.

Thanks for this bit of news Lucky.

I too saw the show when it premiered in Los Angeles.

As with many things, opinions differ.

I guess I liked what I saw more than you did. Not that the show didn't have problems. The night we saw it a pitcher of water was knocked off a table and Raul had to vamp while he mopped it up and managed some ad libs to cover. While Brooke sang better than I thought she could, she was miscast and I look forward to seeing what changes they are going to make.

But overall, I thought the show translated well from the movie. Hopefully the tweaks will only make it better.
