I saw this movie the other day as my BF wanted to see it (he's a fan owns all 3 albums)and i must admit i bitched and whined all the way to the multiplex but it was his turn to choose the movie so in we went.

Actually the strange thing is i liked it ,i know its done really good business but the movie and Em are very good, i can see why some people have been saying that he might get an Oscar nod tho' i think it will be in the Original Song category rather than for acting even though he equates himself very well.

Basically the story is a thinly disguised account of his life and you can see depending on which parts of the story you take to be truth that he has had some seriously fucked up experiences which might give you some insight into his anti women/gay diatribes which have made him the infamous pop culture figure we all know.

Personally i think as lot of it is BS to whip the media into a storm about saying things about 'queers' and 'fags' he aint the first and wont be the last remember the Axl Rose 'One in a Million'kerfuffle a few years ago.If he was such a 'fag'hater he wouldn't have duetted with Elton at the Grammy Awards-all that stuff about not knowing Elton was gay -CRAP which planet has he been on since when 1976 or so.

Anyway the support from Kim Basinger as his alcoholic white trash mom who wouldnt look out of place in the Jerry Springer show and Brittany Murphy as his white trash sluttish girlfriend are also great and i think it might be Basinger who gets the acting kudos.

The audience also shocked me there were a LOT of women there and they were older than i expected over 25 rather than the under 21 that i expected.Eminem is good but then if the character he is playing is 'himself' then why shouldn't he be....the thing that surprised me was that how cute and pretty he comes over in the movie he is a good looking guy (not my type tho':) )and it shows on the big screen

If you are looking to see a movie that might surprise it could be worth going to see.

P.S last night went to see the 2nd Harry Potter movie as well which was EXCELLENT-better than the 1st

I have to acknowledge that Eminem has very good promotion staff. It seems like everything he does is hyped to the max before it's even released to the public. It shouldn't be too difficult to play oneself on the silver screen, but he's certainly not the first "actor" to basically be himself and get critical acclaim. (As to hype, Jack Nicholson's handlers are trying to associate his upcoming film performance with an Oscar nomination; based on the 30 second commercial I saw, which presumably should contain some of the best acting, I can only hope that the Academy isn't that stupid.)

I find Eminem cute, too, in a rough kind of way. I think that's why he is where he is today. He's the trash-talking rapper that white suburban kids' parents can feel less threatened by. He's not from "over there." He's the "bad kid" down the block.

My disclaimer: After 20 years, I still don't get the huge appeal of rap "music." It seems to me that most of the music is just stolen from somewhere else, and what's left is usually bad poetry.

This past week, Derek and I saw 3 films that we loved. All three have one thing in common: really rich brilliant colors, like they used to have in technicolor films of the 50's. Auto Focus (about the death of Hogan's Heroes' Bob Crane), 8 Women (campy French murder-mystery-musical starring Catherine Deneuve), and Far From Heaven (a brilliantly done film...the set designers & wardrobe & makeup people did an amazing job...it's so authentic looking) about a "perfect" white 50's family whose idyllic life falls apart when the closeted husband comes out & the wife falls in love with a black man.

I think I'll skip 8 Mile. :p

As long as we're on the topic of recent releases...

The two movies i've seen lately that have been worthy of a thumbs-up are Mike Moore's 'Bowling for Columbine' and the wonderful DVD release of David Mamet's 'Glengary Glenn Ross.' If you haven't seen either flick, i highly suggest stopping into your nearest multiplex or Blockbuster. Michael Moore is simply one of the best hardhitting documentarians out there and the ensemble cast in 'Glengary' is a variable who's-who of Hollywood talent.

I suppose to tie this whole post into the realm of escorting, one could take some serious sales pointers from Jack Lemmon in 'Glengary..' If you've ever seen this gem of a movie, you'll know what i am talking about ;)

As for M&M's '8 Mile' debut... I have no comment on that one.

I guess Glengary.... was a very good movie. But - I found it to be extremely depressing. Had difficulty sitting through it once and certainly couldn't sit through it again

I'm in total agreement with Rush regarding 8 Mile. Eminem is charismatic and the film moves along well. I was surprised when it was over since I had been enthralled. The two great performances, however, are from Kim Basinger and Brittany Murphy. Em can act for sure, and I don't at all think it's easy to play yourself - which is what he's doing I suppose. Yet, I don't quite see him as a doctor or finance type ... yet! Also, kudos to Far From Heaven (I just knew June Cleaver was going to walk in the door any second - she never did!!!) and Bowling for Columbine. Two more divergent movies you couldn't ask for, but each, in it's own way, adds to the understanding of our fragile personalities. Michael Moore sure knows how to put things together.
