I used some business in Montreal as an excuse for a quick, 3-day, midweek reprise of my August trip before winter set in. It was sunny and brisk, with daytime temperatures in the low- to mid-40’s and nights 5-10 degrees cooler. I was comfortable in a light winter jacket and was glad I had gloves and earmuffs along at night.

Foot traffic along Ste. Cathérine, no longer closed off, was light. But the restaurants had plenty of customers till well past 9:30 pm, and the quality of the food was perhaps even better than the summer, when there are large crowds to feed. The chef at NÜVÜ continues to excel. The following evening at D’Sens, the chef came up from the basement with a carrot and a leek, which appeared ten minutes later as a perfectly cooked julienne on my plate. Dinner at La Piazzetta was enhanced by the reappearance of the adorable Alsatian busboy I met in June.

JP’s. My plan was to hit JP’s after dinner on Wednesday, supposedly men-only night. As I approached, there were a bunch of skanky girls standing outside smoking with some of the dancers. I was so turned off that I continued on past to the metro and went home.

Stock. Stopped in on a traditionally slow Tuesday night and sat at the bar, the better to ogle barman Samuel. About 8 dancers working and the same number of customers. The dancers looked like they’d been scraped up from the bottom of the Stock barrel. On the large side, but not much muscle, not much dancing, and not much cock, hard or otherwise, during their slow dances. The exception was Frankie, who had enough energy onstage for all 8. But he didn’t seem to be interested in meeting customers.

Best part of Stock visit was Taz, who is always fun to talk to and full of the latest gossip. He reported some rumors about Taboo, soon to reopen, and updated me on the success of one dancer in finding a patron.

My plan to stop back on Thursday night, when things should have been livelier, got aborted by the need to pack for a very early flight the next day.

Campus. Tuesday and Thursday afternoons/evenings were good at Campus, with 10-12 dancers on the early shift and more after 6 pm. Wednesday was very sparse – each dancer did 2 fast songs, followed by a bare stage for one song, followed by a slow dance.

Several of my favorites – Davey, Anthony, Olsen – were working, as were some of my unfavorites (Roberto, Alejandro). Criss tended bar on Tuesday. There was one notable newcomer, Étienne, who did his slow dance wearing a Cubs cap. His English was good (he learned it playing video games in the days before they were translated into French); his conversation lively and interesting; and he was a lot of fun in the back. I chatted briefly with two other attractive newcomers, Jérémie and Lucas, but didn’t try their lap dances.

One dancer I spoke with reported that the balance among the Campus dancers has shifted from predominantly gay to mostly straight. I didn’t get any gay-adverse vibes from the straight dancers I talked to.

Miscellaneous. Had a super session with an escort who made it easily into my top ten. Unfortunately, he and his partner have now left Montreal with no certain plan to return. Got to see an open rehearsal at the new Maison Symphonique. Did some exploring in neighborhoods I hadn’t visited before.

Bottom line. Definitely happy I made this trip, and the timing was just right. Any more than 3 days would have been too much at this slower time of the year.

newatthis,

Thanks for the update. On your comments regarding Stock, I agree that their current lineup seems to be somewhat lacking in the....em...size department. I was there three weeks ago and I did enjoy JP dancing at Stock. I don't know if he was there during your visit.

Again, thanks for the report.

I personally didn't generalize based on that one Tuesday night -- I assume that it was an off night and that better-looking and -endowed guys would be working other nights.

New--thanks for the great update on Montreal---I haven't been in a year or so---maybe next summer.

However, a friend of mine was there last weekend and raved about two dancers---Jimmy and Marco. Any info on either one of them? I haven't checked Campus' website for photos--in the the past it has been hopelessly out of date.

Thanks!!

Still out of date so far as I know. I saw both Jimmy and Marco every afternoon. I found Jimmy very attractive, but he spent most of his time sitting with one or two customers whom he seemed to know very well and didn't circulate at all, so I never got a chance to learn more about him. Marco did circulate quite a bit, but didn't attract me as much, so I never interacted with him. Thanks to your input, I intend to change that next visit.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just spent three days in Montreal....so I thought I would just add onto this latest review since the trip timings are pretty close together. Weather was actually very nice on Tuesday and Wednesday. Low at night was 48-50 degrees F which is unusually warm for Montreal this time of year. I got by without even wearing a jacket....just a long sleeve shirt. Started cooling down on Thursday however and Thursday night was cold.

Slow season has definitely settled in at the bars. I only visited Stock and Campus on this trip so I cannot speak to what is going on at JP's or the recently opened taboo.

TUESDAY EVENING

Stock was utterly dead. Both in terms of customers and dancers. Fortunately one of my favourites (Steven) was there and I spent a good part of the evening with him. There was a new dancer there that everyone was talking about because he was so small(in all respects) and no muscle on him at all. Seemed really out of place at Stock. Maybe Stock is trying to broaden their pool of dancers to try and kill off the re-opened taboo. Frank was there (don't know if he is the same as Frankie that newatthis mentioned). I found him attractive and I really liked his body. Had a great cock....well at least from what I saw on the stage. Very odd because he did not circulate at all and spent the whole evening by the pool table. Don't really understand why he dances if he does not want to meet customers and do private dances. I would have had at least one dance with him and possibly many more depending on how good he was. Never got the chance cause it seems he does not want to do private dances.

Campus was actually quite busy with customers, however, I did not see any dancers that really interested me. I had one drink and left.

WEDNESDAY EVENING

I guess I am different than most the guys on this forum. I actually enjoy ladies night at Stock. Probably because some of the best dancers (at least in my opinion) dance on ladies night. Too many to mention on here but a good time was had. Oh, there is a new manager at Stock and he worked on both Wed and Thur. He is an x-dancer from stock. I talked with him and he confirmed he danced there a few years ago. I forget his name but I recognized him instantly. Kind of short but good looking. Anyway, he said he just started as a manager 1 week ago.....so say hi to him when you go.

Campus was surprisingly dead. Maybe 4-5 customers.....which was strange cause Campus is usually busy on Wednesday evening when many gay customers don't want to go to Stock. It was so slow that they had 15 minute gaps between dances. I never remember this happening before on a Wednesday night. Again, I had one drink and then left.

THURSDAY AFTERNOON

Went to Campus for about 30 minutes. I was hoping to see one of my favourites Brandon......but he was not there whilst I was there. Nothing else of interest for me.

THURSDAY EVENING

I went only to Stock. The night started slow but got very busy. Perhaps because Friday was a holiday (Veteren's Day) and some folks did not have to work on Friday. Lots of nice dancers. I see Kevin (not very tall but big muscles.....kind of like the Hulk) has returned after an absence from Stock. Three new dancers that night all of whom were twinks. Not really of interest for me, but they were attractive in a twink way and this also confirms for me what I said earlier that Stock may be broadening the pool of dancers to combat Taboo. Anyway, I had a great time and spent time with numerous guys.

SUMMARY

Stock was fun as always and continues to have the best selection of guys (at least of the type I like). Stock also seems to have a wider range of dancers now with many of the newist ones being twink-types (which will make twink-lovers smile). Campus was a total bust for me again pretty much like my last trip 4-5 weeks ago. I don't know what is going on there but they cannot seem to attract very good guys lately...at least IMHO.

Eze....Frank isnt the former Frankie.

On Tuesday Frank was rented out for the night. The customer who he was playing pool with pays him to play pool all night. He pays $400 on slow nights for a dancer sometimes 2 to just play pool and drink. The deal is they must stay with him till almost closing. Frank is normally very friendly.

Thanks for the report. I enjoy virtual Montreal through the eyes of others.

I'm sorry you didn't stick your head into Taboo -- since the initial flurry of news (essentially just taz's posting about opening night :)), no one has had anything to say. In the old days, there would have been a bevy of posts about the first week or two of Taboo.

I've seen this behavior with dancers at both Campus and Stock, and until your posting, the reason had never occurred to me. Thanks for the enlightenment.

Thanks Taz for the information. Makes total sense now. I hope Frank is more available the next time I go. I really like his body and also his music choices.

Thanks. I follow your reports as well. Even though we have different tastes in guys, it is always good to get the latest information on the "scene". To be honest, I really did intend to pop into Taboo and JP's at some point during my trip just to provide information to the board on the crowd size and number of dancers. I was going to do this on Thursday.....but I ended up staying at Stock the whole time and it was cold outside for the long walk down to Taboo.....and I was lazy.....and, well you get the picture. Sorry! Anyway, the fact that there has been no information since your report may not be a good sign for how Taboo is doing. Who knows? You're going to have to book another trip to find out. I don't see myself going back until Jan/Feb 2012.

hi EZEtoGRU

Sounds like you had a decent, if not spectacular trip to Montreal...I was wondering if you or anyone else knows the whereabouts of a dancer named Kevin who worked at Campus this past summer / said he was training to be a firefighther, has short cropped hair, square jaw, very buff body and engaging personality that kept him busy when I was there at Campus in late July.

Also glad to hear that another Kevin...the one from Stock is back. He does know how to work the stage and with his muscles, he's one of the best looking guys I've seen in any of the Montreal clubs.

thanks for any info.

Not only do I get the picture, I've lived that particular picture.:)

Don't think I haven't thought about it. But I've pretty much decided (after having made several winter trips to Montreal) to limit my visits to the May-October period and "winter" in Fort Lauderdale. Sort of. Well, maybe I'll get there in March...
