Paris, Madrid or ????

I have a friend who will be traveling to a European city (besides Barcelona) and was wondering which one might have the more active gay nightlife. By this he doesn't mean escorts, but just bars and gay clubs or a city with a large gay population with nightlife. I have been to several European cities, but not Paris or Madrid lately, so any advice as to which might be best would be appreciated. He is 40, so he's not into the dance club kind of scene, though he has ventured. He would be going in the spring.

Please tell me about Brussels? I was there years ago and found it pretty, but boring. Please do share your experiences. Night life to speak of? Gay night life at all??? I am intrigued.

I have been to Madrid 4-5 times in the last 18 months. Plenty of fun. Very active gay district (Chueca). Lots of bars, clubs, and restaurants for gay people to go to and feel confortable. Quite a few crusing bars with back rooms and heavy activity in them. Weather might be better in Madrid in spring versus Paris. Both cities are great tourist destinations of course with plenty of museums, local architecture, and sights to see. Also, prices in Madrid may be lower than in Paris.

 

I personally have not been to Paris in many years so my information on the gay scene there is entirely too old. I'm sure someone else (Steven??) who is up to date on Paris can give you their view.

I know the Chueca district in Madrid, but from years ago, when it was run down and not very "gay" at all. I hear the same thing you've stated, that it has changed considerably. I also haven't been to Paris in about 5 years, but never found much of a gay life there, at night or otherwise, maybe I wasn't looking in the right places. Now Brussels surprises me.
