I read your update this evening on how you were robbed. You are making a classic error, by placing the blame on yourself. It was not, "my own stupidity." Also no reason to think this as well, " I was probably more embarrassed by what happened than anything."

 

The thugs took advantage of a situation. They saw you, for whatever reason, as a easy target. They violated your space and your possessions. They made the choice to harm another person. Thankfully you weren't harmed physically yet going through such an event does harm one emotionally.

 

Remember that you did nothing wrong and there is no need to feel silly or embarassed.

I agree! I feel terrible for 2 reasons: (1) because it was Hooboy, and (2) because I hate hearing anything bad about NYC. Guiliani really did make this a safe city & Bloomberg seems to be continuing where he left off. I have not heard of anyone getting mugged here in years, let alone in such a busy spot as 42nd & 8th.

I keep thinking about the reality had this sad occurrance happened before you moved from Houston. I would like to think that you would have experienced the same kindness and professional attitude from H P D as you did from the police in NYC...alas I fear the run of the mill Houston cop would still be laughing at your bad fortune.

 

Sorry for your trouble but as long as it only involved loss of money you probably are very fortunate.
