Amy Winehouse was found dead in her apartment in London today ...

A press release from the Metropolitan Police, which doesn't specifically name Winehouse, says:

 

"Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.

 

On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained."

 

Last month, Winehouse canceled her European tour after a performance in Serbia where she seemed completely out of it.

As messed up as shewas with much of her public and professional appearances - she was a talented singer and song-writer that will be missed by many.

It is sad and tragic, and yes not surprising. Apparently she was the same age that Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison were when they each died of drug overdoses, and the same age Kurt Cobain was when he committed suicide.

Saddened to hear of the death of Amy Winehouse--a beautiful, unique, talented musician. It's the family left behind in this tragedy I feel truly sympathetic for. My thoughts are with them.

Very very sad. My initial reaction was shock, though then I admit I was thinking this wasn't such a huge surprise. Yet, it was, because I really didn't think this would happen so horribly soon. My condolences to her family and her fans. So much music she'll never make now.

Yet another one...

 

While the news of her death came at somewhat of a surprise while I was boarding a flight yesterday morning, I wasn't shocked one bit and in fact, I have come to the acceptance that this is another example of the "27 club" thaty she will live in forever.

this morning i had some time before my first appointment. i pulled up "back to black" and played it loudly, as a little retrospective of her work. when "you know i'm no good" came on, i burst into tears.

A price to pay

 

Why is it the most talented that are so eager to leave this world? She was an amazing singer, soulful and natural, and powerful. The dangers of celebrity and of devoting oneself to the arts cannot be discounted. There's a price to pay if you aren't strong enough. Rest in peace, Amy. We will miss you.
