I've been scouring You Tube and google, but I can't seem to find exactly what Tracy Morgan's homophobic rant was. I know it was about stabbing his boy if he found out he was gay, but I haven't been able to find an actual quote or video. Any of you guys successful in such a search?

It wasn't videotaped. A gay audience member posted it in a note on Facebook and then Morgan admitted that that was what he'd said.

Here is the full story, complete with video of the audience member on CNN (and note that he had to come out to his mother shortly before going on the air!): http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/06/10/983833/-Update-3X:-Morgan-Apologizes,-PFLAG-reacts,-Witness-On-CNN-%28video%29?via=search

It's disturbing to think that some people find this kind of stuff funny. According to the audience member's account, during Morgan's rant it was "followed by thunderous cheer and "You go Tracys"." Sounds like our poster, Merlin2, might have been in attendance.

Extremely disturbing. And in a state where they just stripped LGBT citizens of protection from discrimination. And then, of course, there's their new Don't Say Gay law.

Actually, the "Don't Say Gay" law did not pass the legislature yet. It was put off to the next session by its sponsor in the lower house, after passing the upper house. But it's expected to pass next year. For those who aren't clued in, the "Don't Say Gay" law would prohibit teachers from discussing homosexuality in sex education and health classes. The sponsor of the bill -- a clueless dolt, obviously -- evidently believes that if teachers don't raise the subject, all the kids will grow up to be straight.

Well, he's got a point, because all of us grew up having our teachers constantly discussing the joys of gay sex, right? :p

I am so tired of insincere, forced apologies from prominent people be they entertainers or politicians.

I am a staunch advocate of free speech, but we all have to remember that words can incite others and in other areas give a person permission to do violence to others.

I can take a joke and I can tell some pretty good jokes myself. However, when a person talks about "stabbing his son" because he is gay or because of the "pitch" of his voice, this to me crosses a boundary that we do not need.

I read comments from others about this incident and basically they were saying "oh it is only humor and gays should be less sensitive". Will they still be saying that when, God forbid, one mentally unstable fan of Morgan does to his son exactly what Morgan said he would do to his?

Again, words that incite violence, hatred or bigotry in any form to me is far, far from entertainment.

Just my two cents

While it is obviously wrong for Morgan to say such things, isn't it a bit hypocritcal that this offended audience member only came out to his mother so he could go public with his views against Morgan's comment? But that's just me.

I don't think it's hypocritical at all. It was actually very brave of him. And he didn't come out to her "so he could go public with his views." He had already gone public on Facebook and he'd already been booked on CNN. He came out to her so she would hear it from his own mouth and not from the TV. Anyway, how is being in the closet related to being offended by violent hate speech against gays? The two issues are totally unrelated. It would only be hypocritical if the audience member were offended that Tracy Morgan was in the closet.

leave it to The Savage Man!

Dan Savage appeared onstage at the 15th Annual Webby Awards, Monday, June 13, 2011, in New York. While accepting his award for the groundbreaking It Gets Better project he said, "Tracy Morgan can suck my dick"

Tracy Morgan in the Closet?

Next headline: Tracy Morgan admits that he is gay and has struggled with this knowledge his entire life as he believes it's a choice. Just saying... Show me an ultra homophobe and I'll show you a closeted gay!
