I had an appointment this afternoon with a client who I conversed with thru email and over the phone prior to arriving. We had planned and agreed on meeting up today. Well, I went to email him last night and also called this morning to let him know I'm in town.

Well, when he called me back he said that he didn't hear from me and assumed I did not make it in into town. But we spoke previously last week and I let him know I had him on the schedule for today. But then he says it may not work out at all while I'm here to see each other. And it wasn't just a 1 hour appointment but a multi-hour one :(

I wasn't completely upset with him, but I did let him know I was expecting to see him today. I just don't think that his not hearing back from me was enough to assume I wasn't in town. I mean, I said yes all along if I didn't make it I would have let him know I didn't show up. But at the same time I probably should have contacted him again earlier this week just to give a heads up that I was in town.

In my business, we say, "It's not a sale until you've collected the final payment." You just have to keep up the communication with the guy if nothing more than play-by-play trip announcements.

I also "Don't count the money will I'm sitting at the table." You never know if you're going to have that cash in your pocket until after you've collected, pocketed and departed.

How disappointing...

I don't know all the facts to this case certainly Mocha but I believe that if clients communicate with an escort and set up a date/time then they should honor that appointment. Certainly if they had emailed you or phoned you and heard nothing from you at all for a few days then that's different.

this was similar to another posting where the client had made an appt and then the escort didn't follow through that was talked about a few days ago. It is truly sad that what happened to you occurred....but again I don't know all the exact details of the case.

Sometimes its a bit harder keeping up communication with out of towners. I can answer emails and return phone calls but its a bit different for a client dealing with 1 escort than an escort dealing with 10-15 inquiries.

I would thinjk after spending 15 min on the phone last week and emailing that it'd be pretty set our plans. In addition men4rent taking my ad down is complicating matters and making it harder for clients to remember me.

Always Be Closing (ABC),should be your motto. The sales function needs make you all things to every client all the time. Fifteen emails a day, keeping in touch with all 15 clients scheduled for the next 5 days shouldn't take you more than an hour each day. Begin to standardize your emails so that you can send the same thing to everyone. "Here in Tucson today. Boy is it hot. Can't wait to see you!" It may sound dumb, but it's a touch... the clients know you're thinking of them and depending on them to follow through with the appointment. You need to plan to follow-up from the initial contact to the appointment and after the appointment. Finding a client is hard, you want to build repeat client business.

I don't want to sound condescending to you, but aren't you making an assumption here, too? Saying "I would think ..." is assuming things not in evidence. ABC, it's your responsibility to keep up the communication... 90% of your work happens before you're in the client's presence. It's real work. The session with the client is your reward for your diligence. Oh, yeah, and the financial thing helps.

You're right, what happened with M4RN sucks. But in business, accountants would say you are co-mingling funds. Your business expenses should be held in a separate account so that you can make automatic payments and keep your advertisements running - no matter what. You should fully fund your business budget each month and then it's set and you can forget it. Using one checking account, you're mixing your spending money with your 'making money' money, a $5 error in spending money can kill your advertising and hurt your business. That's a very risky manner for handling and making money.

Flee! Run for your lives!

Man... that "always be closing" saying sparked something...

I feel like I'm listening to those Nightingale-Conant tapes again. *runs*

Sounds like the client got cold feet and used the lack of communication as an excuse. Even if you had conversed daily he would have come up with another resaon he couldn't see you.

Mocha, instudiocity is spot on with his ABC. He's also right in saying it doesn't require a whole lot. In this case a simple message saying you got into town would have done it. As a client, I appreciate being kept in the loop so I know how to plan.
