"Available 24/7" - How do you do it, and should you?

Sometimes one see advertisements indicating availability every hour of the day or night, and every day of the week.

 

How do you do it? Do you keep your cell phone turned on with a loud ringer, or keep a pager in bed with you?

 

Isn't this also nerve-wracking or medically inadvisable? I believe there are reform measures aimed at relieving medical residents from having to be available 24/7. They have enormous problems with sleep deprivation.

When I lived in London, I promoted myself as being available 24/7. I usually stayed up till 4am and slept till noon, but left my phone on most of the time. London is a 24hr city and there was a substantial amount of late-night business which went the way of guys who could work those hours. I was much more likely to get work between midnight-4am than between 8am-noon. It was possible because if I was up late working, I had the freedom to sleep in the next day. Toronto is not a 24hr city and I very rarely get inquiries after midnight here. One thing to keep in mind is that it is not appropriate to make a general phone inquiry late at night, even if the escort advertises 24/7: only call if you want to make a booking for that night.

I guess I sort of interpreted being available 24/7 slightly differently. I usually keep the phone on until I go to bed, which is normally around 130 or 2 and then it's off until I wake up. I do, however, have 24/7 in my ad because if you called me at say 10pm and asked for an appointment at 8am, I would make myself available for you. It doesn't necessarily mean that I would answer the phone at 8am.

I also have picked up many businessmen that wanted to meet BEFORE they started their day at 8 or 9am...If I turned the phone off when I went to bed (around 3am) I would've missed out on these calls (some of which have become regulars).

Also, get my fair share of BS calls as well!

Hear, hear! Also, don't think that texts are somehow less intrusive than calls; either wake me up (which is fine if, like Mark says, you're looking to book for now).

 

It's not lost on me that a substantial portion of my revenue comes between the hours of midnight and four a.m., so I simply adjust my sleep schedule accordingly. And I've got my gym partner trained not to call before noon.

I advertise that I am available 24/7 just to make it clear that escorting is my main job and I don't have any other time constraints but this in my case doesn't mean that I take calls all the time; in fact I turn off my phone around midnight and turn it on when I wake up the next morning. Clients are always welcome to call me or text me anytime and if I am not available to answer the phone I will respond as soon as I can.

I guess the only lesson one can learn from this is that one should never assume anything. Always ask and if you are not sure about the answer... ask again.

I always turned my phone off at 10 pm Id get up some mornings and find calls left at 2am wanting to get a massage. I think drunks druggies and trouble makers tend too be out during those hours and I didn't want to risk such in my home.

As a client who as sometime wanted to hook up late -- on those occasions either plans were changed at the last minute and so I was looking spontaneously, or as happened once in Las Vegas, the guy I booked skipped out on me -- and never picked up his phone or asnwered messages so I finally booked someone else as I was horned up with no place to go.

 

But my general mode of operating is to text the guy if it is after 10:00 PM and I had not made any previous inquiry. If HE texts back, then I set up to call him. I feel any escort deserves down time (sleep time, time with friends, time on his own) and so I would hesitate to call a guy at that late hour, unless I knew he was awake and willing to take the call.

When I first started out in the business, I used to leave my phone on 24 hrs and take calls at the last minute in the middle of the night. In my experience those clients are often drunk or high and are more likely to be the ones where you show up and no one is there. I probably would make more money if I still did that, but I've just gotten to the point where I prefer to only meet people I have already met in the wee hours of the morning.

Kevin, forgive me please, but as a relative newcomer to the forum can you explain why you and so many others here are so negative against m4rn? I advertise on all the big 3 (rb, m4rn and rentmen). In my experience I get more quality good clients from m4rn than I do from rb (about 3 to 1). I get only a small fraction from rentmen even though they have the best customer service. When I 1st started...within the 1st year I would stay up all night for calls. Eventually I just quit doing it. Guys who call that late generally never become regulars, and then on top of that they expect you to get up and drive all over town within 20 minutes. And if you don't, they talk about "doing it tomorrow" and never do.

 

For some reason, even though I don't mention it...guys simply do not call me after 11-12 am anymore. Can't remember the last time one did, and if so I damn sure didn't go. One idiot was talking about having me take a TAXI at 2 am to his hotel while his buddy was asleep. Do I really look like an idiot? Maybe it has to do with moving to a more respectful escort city, but I can work normal business hours and then go out at night and do other things. People aren't calling me last minute anymore...perhaps the former shitty economy has taught clients to book and schedule escorts/finances in advance rather than making impulsive decisions at 3:30 am after a bar. Which works perfectly fine for me.

 

I did meet 1 client around 4-5 am for our 1st encounter, but after that we began regular meetings and they'd usually be late at night also.
