I guess I've never been into facebook before, but I signed on to my mostly unused account today, and found out I had some 130 requests for "friends," including a dozen or so escorts, multiple friends and relatives, and a couple dozen work contacts (oh, and my domestic partner, for some reason, and a few names I didn't even recognize). Obviously, I don't need every cousin, co-worker, sibling, and hubby knowing about all the escorts I've been in contact with. Being new at this, I have to ask an obvious question: does a person's "friends" get to find out who all of his other "friends" are? If so, I don't see why most people would want to "friend" an escort!? Of course, I do have a certain fondness for a number of escorts and wouldn't mind sharing certain things. But I certainly have a lot of info that I would share with family but not with work, and so forth. How do you guys handle this?

I mostly just use facebook to play farmville. But there are certain privacy setting that you can set that determines who can see what. Mines set to were you have to be approved and added as a friend to see my daily posts, pics or anything that matters. I have most of my relatives blocked.

I looked at some of the settings, and it looks like you can make sure only "friends" see certain things, but is it possible to keep the list of who your friends are private (i.e. not available to other "friends")?

The answer to this question seems simple to me. Use separate email accounts for your different activities. For instance: one for work, one for family and friends and one for your entertainment activities (hiring purposes).

Yeah, Facebook has made this somewhat difficult. I have three FB personas - Work | Relatives | SeXXX - not great and I don't use it that much. I much prefer good 'ol e-mail (several addresses feeding to one master address with the hot stuff (fave escorts included) SMSed to my Android), RSS feeds, my own blog/website and SMS / Twitter. Facebook is such a dumbed-down walled garden approach to the Internet, a bit of a sandbox - feels like AOL 3.0 to me (and I was around for the first incarnation) and the privacy concerns are huge. Though I'll admit Google could blackmail me for big bucks if they decided to become "evil".

Steven took the words right out of my keyboard. If you want to keep the various parts of your life separate on Facebook, then use different e-mail addresses. Another option is not refrain from using Facebook.

I can see how Facebook for those who hire and separate accounts would be necessary. As an escort, I have a totally different concept in play: everything is merged with the appearance of a friendly, gay man who likes to look at pretty people. Here's how it works: I have porn stars as friends as a smoke screen. I will never meet them. I have clients who are friends but I also have friends who don't meet my other friends so they never know that the clients aren't just other friends. I have other escorts and massage guys as well. No one knows who is someone I've worked with or just someone I added out of random request. Throughout all this chaos, I toss more in with random jokes that everyone knows I'm not the least bit serious. And voila! No one who doesn't know my secrets learn any. I've just recently added coworkers from a haunted house and none of them (except the client who is involved) knows that I'm an escort. But I also have my privacy setting set so tight that I have to poke someone when I send a friend request because no one besides friends can see my profile.

 

One other note: I don't friend relatives as I stopped talking to them long ago. I also don't use my real name online ANYWHERE so it's always Adam. I've also deleted my info from some search sites like spokeo.com to make it difficult to find information on me.

I blocked most of my relatives I don't have A relationship with any of them any way. I use my real first and last name on most boards, This girl a few months ago contacted me on facebook I hadn't seen her since the 3rd grade she was looking up old classmates. Since then iv had a few classmates send a quick hello from facebook. out of 186 facebook friends I only talk with maybe 3 of them on a regular bases. most i just play farmville with and never speak unless its over game play

I'm interested to hear that I CAN use multiple emails for multiple Facebook accounts. (I thought the sign-up process would notice my computer address and prevent me from doing so.)

 

I thought I would use it to be business-like in one account and a raucous cut-up in the other, but I don't like the idea of business contacts asking if I will "friend" them before getting to know me personally. So, I doubt I will have more than one.

I use facebook a lot and am friends with 3 current escorts and 5 former escorts. They all tend to be discrete and with a travelling escort, I find when he is coming to NYC before people here do.
