Help me get my Groove on. As a rule I hate club music. It just sucks. I remember working out once and the whiny voice overhead continually pined, "There's some thing about the music, there's something about the music, there's..." to which I eventually responded, "Yeah, it sucks." This received a couple chuckles from fellow rockers, but the rest responed as if I'd spit on Cher's tits.

And so I stay away from Clubs because generally I know I'd only become angry (imagine). I may even puke, but that wouldn't be too out of place at "Splash" I imagine.

But sometimes, out of Knowhere, I'll hear something like Bedrock's "Heaven" or "Underworld" by Born Slippy, or catch a soundtrack like "PI", or the opening music to the Snipe's film "Blade" (called, appropriately, "Blood") and I just have to fuck ASAP. I'm sure if dancing interested me I'd feel, "I must Dance ASAP", but fucking is what I do when emotional. I want to hear more Club music that's to my liking, but I don't know enough about club music to find what's to my liking. Someone teach me without using words that have no meaning to me like Trance, House, Techno. Look at those 4 examples and figure me out (damnit!) :7

Groove Armada

I think you would like Groove Armada. Or Ben Watts (the male half of Everything But The Girl) DJ collection. However, being as you live in Los Angeles, I would simply get your six pack over to Perfect Beat, talk to the 30+ guy with the short salt and pepper hair (the owner) and ask him to make some suggestions and then listen for yourself on the listening stations. Global Grove and circuit Sessions are both very good quality mix compilations, by the vary as much as DJs themselves would vary.

Honestly, I doubt you will find an entire mix CD that is to your liking and were I you, I would find a friend with Itunes or another comparable program to easily process and burn a collection of songs that is EXACTLT to your liking. And, sorry, no I am not volunteering. I am still waiting on Mr. Munroe to give me those personal gag reflex lessons he promised me.

Since you live in Los Angeles you have the opportunity to listen to Jason Bentley spinning club music on KROQ Saturday nights Midnight to 3:AM. Also, Jason hosts Metropolis Monday - Friday evenings on KCRW. It's streamed at http://kcrw.com

I usually listen to his show on KCRW (commercial free :) ) and also when possible to a show on KCRW called The Drop. When I hear something I like I go out and buy it.

My Club Music collection is growing each day :)

I liked your other music thread better. Club music is simply boring.

doesn't all =crap

I too am not big on the current north american 'club music' scene. Especially the screaming diva house music that is played in gay clubs. And for some reason the dancefloor is always packed... if you dance they will continue to play that shit.

Underworld just released a new album, they can do no wrong.

I would suggest a good place for you to start(judging by your 'other' music tastes) is Danny Tennaglia in Athens... part of the Global Underground series. It's got a bit of a darker feel to it, but still meaty enough for the 'clubbers'

anything by Deep Dish, Digweed would also be a nice start.

Another great source for experimenting are music mags like DJ, Ministry, future music.... most come with a free cd attached with a good mix of dance music... great for getting a feel for what you might like.

There also for us 'older' guys....a bunch of artists mixing trashy 80's style with dance beats...currently called Electroklash by wankers: )... Felix da houscat, Ficsherspooner, Miss kittin.

A side note...primal sceam have released a new album... though not at all dance, it's fucking great... this is a truly brilliant band, who have sadly never caught on stateside, but every album is genius. Screamedelica... the first... probably the first ectasy influenced record ever... a trippy hippy love fest, Give out but don't give up....second record... Exile on mainstreet rewritten for the 90's, Echo Dek...return of the groove meisters. xtrmntr....chunky industro romping, not well recieved, but good none the less...

something for everyone.

another 'newer' band from the UK is the Streets... ghetto sounds from eastenders.... check it out...
