Gay Bars in Beijing and Shanghai

 

I was in Beijing last year and was told that there are now a couple of "gay bars" in the city. However, given the attitute of the government toward gay and lesbian individuals, I don't think I would go there, as one's name might appear on their immigration and security checklists in the future. I know that those bars cannot exist without some government approval, so I guess I am very suspicious as to why they have now approved them. I doubt that any gay soldiers in China would dare frequent those bars.
