I'm finding myself in a position where I'd like to sell things online. I've never done this before. I know a few people who use PayPal when they use ebay.

Has anyone here had experiences they would care to share about using PayPal or another service? I'm not even sure what's out there so I need to start doing some research. Any help or suggestions would be welcome and appreciated. Feel free to contact me directly if you prefer. Thanks.

PayPal

I have used PayPal hundreds of times as both a buyer and a seller. They do take a cut (which goes to eBay as they own it), but it's worth it as over 90% of buyers prefer to use it as their payment method. It allows buyers to fund the payment from their credit card, debit card, account balance, or directly from their bank account. The advantage for sellers is that they receive the funds into their account immediately. They can then transfer the funds to their bank account or leave it in their PayPal account to buy things. One drawback is that if there is a dispute, such as a buyer saying an item has not arrived, they will tend to favour the buyer. It is pretty much a necessity to use PayPal to be a successful seller on eBay. It can also be useful outside of eBay as a means of transferring funds for personal reasons...

I use it to and never had a problem. I use too sell on ebay but haven't in the last few years. I use to let a few of my regular massage clients pay my pay pal too

PayPal works well as long as you follow their rules. If what you're selling is of an adult nature, they can summarily close your account I think.

The golden rule with PayPal is NEVER EVER click a link in ANY email that claims to be from PayPal. It is almost never from them. They are a primary attack vector for phishing scams.

But if you ALWAYS begin all interaction with PayPal by going to paypal.com and logging into your account (i.e. NOT by clicking a link in email), it's safe.

yeah the only time pay pal normally emails you is when you receive money, or when you transfer money from pay pal over to your checking you get a auto response. I used mine a few years ago to sell adult movies but you can't list it as that in the pay pal field any type of adult service is a no no.

Thanks so much for all the responses. It's a big help to know it works. Nothing I will be selling is x-rated. I'm okay with them getting a cut. Seems the way to go. I love you guys!

Pay Pal is a must for all the reasons given above. A couple of things I learned to do. Before you start selling, spend some time following auctions of items similar to yours so you have a good idea of what things are going for these days and what you should charge for shipping. If you have good stuff and throw away stuff (items that probably won't sell for much if at all), group them so that the auction is really about the good item but gives you a chance to get rid of the cheaper stuff.
