Well, I'll tell you right off the bat that I am a Jay Leno fan. I DVR his show every night, and then watch the monologue, Headlines, and occasionally the guest interview. Letterman has always turned me off, but I do see his show occasionally. Finding out that he was screwing his staff didn't help.

But Conan? Jeez, what a bore. Now I know that I am not in his "demographic" so this should not be a surprise, but really, who is? He is just not funny and has no charisma. I think just about anybody could do as well as he does with the show. So now maybe FOX gets him, and that's fine because I don't watch FOX.

Jimmy Fallon seems to be universally considered a flop, so maybe not just anybody could do Conan's job, but you know what I mean.

What I don't get in the whole kerfuffle is what they're planning on doing with the 10:00 void this would create five nights a week. The media has been so obsessed with the flip side of the local news that I'm left to wonder if anyone's considering the lead-ins this is meant to resolve.

The Live Feed blog has good background on all of this.

NBC has just ordered a lot more pilot series than usual to make up for this fiasco. In the interval Law & Order and some other show gets the slots after February.

Another interesting situation is NBCU-owned USA Network which has been doing very well in the slot with shows like White Collar, Monk, Psych and other shows. Obviously the audience voted with its remote with NBC losing ratings and screwing over the affiliates.

I was about to suggest L&O when you posted it. They've really become THAT predictable. ::sigh::

If there's a silver lining it's that they might learn from this. But I'm doubting.

I was rather enjoying having Leno on at 10. For years and years I'd tune into the tonight show for the monologue and then go to bed. I was finding myself sound asleep by 10:15 on this new schedule -- and that pretty much sums up the problem with the show. It isn't entertaining enough to hold an audience.

I'm with you on this one. I thought NBC was beyond stupid for dumping Leno to sign Conan. Conan is SO boring and who wants to look at that ugly face?

A shame you aren't watching FOX because you are missing one of the most interesting shows on television: FRINGE. Love it. It has, by far, the most interesting cast on television and John Noble is priceless.

Actually Leno resigned a full two years prior to the change.

And I agree Fringe is a very cool show and I am also a huge fan of the show 24.

Conan was not funny on his original show yet NBC stuck with him and he developed a small core audience. That won't happen with his current show.

I hope they do bring Leno back to the 1130 slot. I miss his monologues and the few bits he did prior to the guests.

I find the whole mess such a bore. Hate Leno - Letterman is an ego-maniac, and Conan is butt ugly and not funny. Frankly, I don't think there has been anyone worth his salt since Johnny Carson retired.

But I can't help but think that Conan has been royally screwed around. Hope he has a rottweiler for a lawyer. The settlement should be huge.

Supposedly, Conan's contract has a clause that he will be paid $45 million if he is not the host of a program called "The Tonight Show". That would royally screw NBC for sure and deservedly so.

Isn't 45 million chicken feed for NBC?

People hated it when Jack Paar left and Johnny Carson came on. It took a while for him to catch on but he certainly did, didn't he? Shoot, I remember thinking it will never be the same when Steve Allen left. :)

Best regards,

I absolutely agree, (except I don't really think Conan is that ugly, but he is very boring). Leno and Letterman have never impressed me (both unattractive and dull in my book). I was younger most of the time Carson was in charge, and so I did not get to stay up late and see him often. I do, however, remember the shows that I did see were always very funny and interesting.

It was my understanding that Leno's "resignation" two years ago was a long range plan of NBC, hence his two years of comments about being put out to pasture.

Has anyone checked out the George Lopez show? It has a totally different vibe than Leno/Letterman/O'Brien. I've caught a couple of episodes ... some I thoroughly enjoyed, a few I didn't care for.

And my personal favorite right now is the Bonnie Hunt Show. It's fun, personable ... and can get a little bit naughty, even if it is on daytime. I have a hunch that a nighttime Bonnie Hunt Show would be a hoot!

Yeah, but Conan's never been funny. He tries so hard that it makes me uncomfortable. He should be yanked completely.

I totally agree. I could care less if Conan is ugly or not, but he's just not funny. He's painful to watch. If I want to go to sleep immediately, I turn Conan on. He's a better remedy for insomnia than Ambien.
