I vote for the Senton Hotel, New York as the absolutely WORST in the WORLD. Located in the Chelsea area, it is frequently used for 'short stay' visits. For hilarious reviews and pics of the Senton, check this out:

One 'lady' described that she needed to shower with her heels on. To be avoided at all costs, except if you are into some kinky 'trash' scene .... ;)

I'll see you the Senton and raise you one with the Tokyo Hotel in Chicago. These reviews are right on:

I and 2 co-workers stayed there once -- from 6:00 am til noon. Which seems to be about the average stay. We had driven nonstop from Boston for a trade show at McCormick Place, got to town at dawn, so at loose ends until our own hotel would let us check in later in the day. Even as dead as we were, we did our best not to touch any of the surfaces in our Tokyo rooms.

But it was available, when we needed it, at the right price. Hardly the only thing I've bought for those reasons!

Back in November I was staying at a large hotel in NYC and there happened to be a Hotel Trade Show in town. I spoke with some of the attendees who were sitting at the bar... guys and gals who worked at the managerial level for a large hotel conglomerate... and everything in the above link is true. Plus, the stories got more interesting the more the pinot grigio began flowing... According to them the filthiest thing in the room is the remote control as that is the last thing that anyone would think of cleaning... a door knob possibly, but never the remote control... at least according to those in the know.

So stock up with and buy stock in Purell...

I was a local consultant on a hugh IT project for a corporation here in Manhattan. The project involved many consultants flown in week after week and put up at name brand hotels around midtown. If I had a nickel for every time a consultant switched hotels as the result of roaches, bedbugs etc., I'd be very wealthy. And I can't recall a single hotel brand that was spared.

I've heard that the cleanest thing in most hotel rooms is the toilet. After that it's all downhill. Scary, isn't it?

Reminds me of a friend I had who was an airline mechanic. Even though he could fly for free, he never got on a plane. I've met waiters who never eat in restaurants. I wonder if hotel maids ever stay in hotels?
