Adam Lambert's delivered a near-perfect, stellar (albeit less controversial) performance tonight on "So You Think You Can Dance." Adam's mega talent and mega pipes affords him the luxury to dare to be different, bold and outrageous. He is a rare kind of superstar who is not afraid to bend and stretch the boundaries of music, entertainment, and gender.

Meh. Only slightly better then on the music awards but not much. Not my type of music I suppose. Maybe I am getting too old to enjoy all this teeny bopper music.

I remember the good old days when somebody didn't get called a "superstar" until they'd really paid their dues and had, say, 7 number ones in a row. Now, all you have to do is win an amateur talent contest.

Thanks for your very good point, Rick. It is premature to call Adam a superstar. I'll refrain from granting him that moniker until after his first seven singles hit #1.

 

That said, American Idol is like no other "amateur talent contest" in the world, considering that over 100 million people voted in the 2009 American Idol final round alone and 624 million votes were cast during the 2009 season (more than twice the U.S. population). That kind of exposure for a new talent is staggering.
