In the above article the WSJ details how Boulder Colorado Police are cracking down on a Halloween tradition where people run naked wearing only a pumpkin on the heads. Those arrested are subject to having to register as sex offenders!

sfgate.com reports where the Castro was 'dead' quiet, no more celebration there.

What has happened Hoovilliagers?

Maybe M. Moosie was right, we drones headed for the rice fields...

I read the article twice. I'm still not sure I get it. It seems to me that the only one objecting is the chief of police, and that his problem is crowd control. Is there more to it than this?

It seems like some police departments, school districts, and other agencies are a bit overzealous when classifying activities as being "sex crimes." Remember the case of the teen who kissed a girl, was accused of committing statutory rape and was going to be forced to register as a sex offender?

I don't recall all of the details, but a few years ago some suspected gang members crashed the Castro Halloween party and did some serious gay bashing and a near-riot broke out. I wonder that tempered this year's festivities.

If public nudity is not against the law in Boulder, how can they cite these people for a crime. And to label then as sex offenders is just plain stupid - as is the police chief. Bet he's a Republican.

Creating a public disturbance.

Horse crap - how can it be a public disturbance when hundreds of enthusiastic people turn out to see them and there is not one complaint from the public?

I got the charge wrong. The article says that last year 12 people were cited for disorderly conduct. It's pretty much a catchall. I'm with you on wondering where the problem is. I'm starting to think this is how crazy sounding laws get passed, this one would be an ordinance by the city of Boulder allowing unclothed people wearing headgear made of pumpkins to run through such and such a place at such and such a time. The next few paragraphs would outline the exact specifications for the size, shape, and acceptable carvings in said headgear.
