Bug? -- posts marked "read" when they weren't

I always log in here to read the forums (rather than read them as a guest) so that I can use the "New Posts" feature to see only what I haven't seen before. When I'm done, I use the quick link to "Mark Forums Read" before I log out.

 

But if I need to log out before I've read all the unread stuff and DON'T mark the forums as read, all the unread stuff still shows up as read the next time I log in.

 

Is this what's supposed to happen? Is there any way to avoid it?

I've had similar problems ever since we migrated to the new system a few months back. It seems like I used to be confident that I've at least seen all the new topics, now I'm no longer sure.

Don't know what the intent is, but this is exactly how it behaves without using the "Mark read/unread" feature. Log in/Log out, and all unread are now read.

It would be nice if that happen. Perhaps there's a setting daddy can tweak?

I actually never logout. The majority of the time, posts remain marked as unread until I actually read them. But several times a week, I'll re-enter the forum to find everything in the Deli or the Lounge showing as 'read'.
