MJs Bar Fiasco last night

A bunch of friends of mine and I drove 70 miles up to MJs bar in Silverlake (Los Angeles) last night for the premiere night of "EXXXCESS" which is the new name for "Industry" night of 10 nearly naked porn stars performing at the bar. This event used to be at Numbers and then moved to ELEVEN in Weho and they were trying out MJs Bar last night.

However, when we arrived, there was the "usual" line dancing going on early which we thought would not be happening this week. One dancer was up dancing who happened to be a porn star, but a staple of the go-go dancing scene. But the line dancing continued until 10PM. Meanwhile, I was looking for Jason Sechrest who sponsors these Industry events and EXXXCESS tonight. He was no where to be seen.

 

Then the next thing I saw on Twitter, was that he and the 10 porn stars stormed out of MJs Bar because MJs double booked their event with the line dancing. So all the dancers left with Jason to go to Here Bar. So there were no dancers left. Twitter was all a twitter about the disaster and the porn stars were all pissed and off they went to Here Bar. Around 10:30 3 dancers re-appeared at MJs (they usually have anywhere from 15 - 20 at one time).

 

Later on Twitter someone said that MJs wouldn't let Jason's team perform because MJs performance license wasn't in order. What a mess for both MJ's and Jason Sechrest as a PR guy. Not only did he not double and triple check his own booking, MJs also made mistakes by not making sure that they didn't have two events booked at the same time and (if this is even believable) that they had the right performance license.

 

It's only funny because many people showed up for the event and had no idea what was happening. Some were pissed because the EXXXCESS poster said "no cover" and MJs was suddenly charging $10 to get in after 10PM.

 

As someone who likes to go to these events I have to say that Jason's events are usually a mess even when they do happen. He doesn't have the hottest porn stars usually (maybe one or two) and they are more interested in talking to each other than to the crowd so it usually is a flop even when they are there. It just reminds me how disorganized some people are when they are trying to run their own business and don't follow simple rules of the business world. I find it amusing and all too common unfortunately in this world of gay entertainment.

 

But we turned lemons into lemonade and had fun anyway. We spent the rest of the evening looking at this dancer:

As someone who likes to go to these events I have to say that Jason's events are usually a mess even when they do happen. He doesn't have the hottest porn stars usually (maybe one or two) and they are more interested in talking to each other than to the crowd so it usually is a flop even when they are there.

 

So, these events are usually awful and yet you still drove 70 miles to be there. Now, that's dedication!

I know! I keep giving him another chance. But never again. Actually I went to see the headliner who was on the event poster above because everybody says he is so hot (Jason Pitt). I'm not sure I see it but thought I'd see him in person to see for myself. But since they bolted before I saw him I never found out.

 

Usually MJs has other dancers that come in at 11pm so we thought we would be safe if Jason's event flopped. But they didn't have the extra dancers Saturday. So it was a bust all the way around other than I got to see my friend Chris who is one of my favorite bartenders (pic above).

Saturday was a clusterfuck. I was there. Jason's porn stars are more porn workers or should be called porn employees. none are STARS. Saturday night though is usually run by the guys who put on the circuit-y event Scandal though and they usually have 5-7 guys dancing, not the usual 15-20 that tuesdays/fridays @ MJ's are known for. Their performance permits are fine too.

 

Those line dancers take their shit uber-serious. I'm thinking at least a few will be Wynonna for Halloween without even a grain of irony.
