The New England Patriots are playing Tampa Bay from Wembley Field today at 1:00 PM, EDT, on CBS. The NFL is selecting one game/season to be played in London. It rained for the last two days there, so the teams had no chance to practice and get accustomed to the field. It could be an interesting game for football fans.

I think it is pretty obvious that the NFL is headed for more "international" competition, but, since few outside the US play US football, it will be US teams in an international venue. I expect to see at least one game per team "overseas" within 2 years or so. One world NFL, can one world government be far behind?

Best regards,

It rained without stop during the Giant Miami game in London two years ago. The quality of the football really suffered. I hope the rain doesnt lessen the quality of the football, though the football gods know that Tampa really doesn't play quality football this year anyway.

Review of Game

The game turned out to be a big disappointment. Tampa Bay is just no match for the Patriots. The Pats won 35-7. So the game was generally boring. Two more closely matched teams would have been better.

I wasn't enthusiastic about either the rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" or "God Save The Queen". It was kind of strange to hear "God Save The Queen" before an NFL game.

Apparently, Tom Brady is very popular in Britain. So that didn't disappoint the fans. There was also a large Union Jack flag with the Pats logo in the middle of the flag. Cute touch! They also distributed some sort of handbook with the rules of football. From the few lines I found, it would be really funny for an American footlball fan to read. Maybe I'll post it, if I can find it.

The field had been worked on for the game and covered with a tarp, allowing for a completely dry field. I don't quite understand why they had to cover the field when there's a dome. Maybe, the dome doesn't completely cover the area. Anyone know?
